Desert air intake

whats the use for the DAT? The only reason I bought it with it was because it was the only pro that was black at the dealership. Honestly feel like it’s kinda useless. Also paid 42k for everything.

 

I would agree with you. but its use, is for people who drive in the dusty conditions to try to get cleaner air from above.

Pulls in somewhat cleaner air then the Regular Tacos rather than pulling the air from the wheel well area (worst possible place ever).

 

It’s not THAT bad. In stock config, it’s cool air outside the engine comp, protected and filtered. I can think of worse places, and no better places to suck air, off the top of my head.

 

I guess my opinion that it is worst place is because we got into some of this sticky Utah mud and no way to wash the wheel well out for 2 days so digging the mud clear of the louvers really was crappy.

 

The wheel well (behind the liner) intake is an intelligent location. Those who do not understand the multitude off reasons why nearly all vehicles pull air from this location are unlikely to be convinced otherwise as they don’t comprehend the issues to begin with.

They are typically the same people who ask for a functional hold scoop on the sport.

I am so deeply glad that Toyota doesn’t listen to TW all that much. The Tacoma platform would be absolutely fucked if left to the popular ideas of this forum.

Back on topic. The TRD Intake makes total sense for it’s intended use of limiting the clogging of one’s air filter when travelling through dusty landscapes. It is also the best looking offering on the market. The other offerings don’t appear to extend far enough up to make much of a difference, and don’t look like the belong on the truck. Toyota came up with a functional and tasteful solution.

 

Plus, it works. It doesn’t NOT work.
