Delivery Tracking by VIN?

Hi all, yesterday I put a deposit on a white TRD Sport 4x4 MT that was listed as being in the build phase. A few hours later the vehicle disappeared from Toyota's website and the dealer's website.

Are there any publicly available tools for tracking a vehicle's status by VIN? I know I can always call the dealer but it would be nice to be able to check on my own. Thanks for any insight you have.

 

If the temp VIN is gone then it may have been assigned a permanent VIN. There use to be a site called Toyota Tracker but it has since gone offline. Get with your dealer for your permanent VIN. They can tell you exactly where it is at at any given time. They work for you so don't feel bad for making them earn their money. Also 4 to 6 weeks is a good estimate from the time the permanent VIN is issued to delivery.

 

Just talked to the dealer; I think we have a permanent VIN as the last six places are all digits. However, apparently even Toyota's internal tools for checking VINs are currently down.

I guess you think you’re funny but I’m sure you know as well as I do there’s a website that people are using to track their new purchases (I used it two years ago when I bought my 22 but can’t find it anymore) and that’s all I’m trying to find out… but thanks for being so helpful (and hilarious)

 

Go read my first post...I mentioned there use to be a site and it is now offline. So tell me....where would you go now that it is offline? Maybe direct to the source?!?!?

 

He’s not joking. The tracker went down a couple weeks ago so really the only way to find out now is the dealer

 

Yeah Toyota got upset people were using the public API to track and buy the vehicle they want. The result is now Toyota Tracker is down and I believe the allocation sheets are dead too.

Toyota already makes it hard enough to find the exact vehicle you want, so the decision to kill these is puzzling. Either the API wasn’t supposed to be publicly accessible or they think this will increase profits because people won’t be hunting as much.

 

What percentage of customers actually used those tools? You'd think they'd want to support the enthusiasts since those are the people that will likely influence others. But what do I know; I'm just some shmoe buying a pickup.

 

I would put my money on the distributors getting butt hurt about the allocation list. That tool allowed you to pretty much see everything in the pipeline nationwide and go make deals with the dealer who had what you wanted. and the people in the GST and SET mafia states probably used it the most. The tracker website does not make a lot of sense but when they shut one down it probably killed the other.

 

I had been looking for another allocation list since the other 4G one went cold.

if there’s a letter in the last 6 digits (like 00b045) it’s a temp vin and hasn’t been built yet. If it’s been built and given a permanent vin it will be all numbers

 

Yeah I have used that but only shows inventory and not allocations. In my case there are only 4 trucks that match what I want and on the other side of the country....and loaded with port add ons. Thank you though! I am more than likely going to let Jim R do the work for me.

 

To add to your post, the first 2 numbers are the production week. So 19B045 will be made in week 19.

 

Huh, so mine was made the first week of this year and it's still not at a dealership? That doesn't seem good. Last six digits are 017919.

edit - or does that coding system only apply to the temp VIN?

 

One if not both the Mexican plants have logistic nightmares. If they stack up the trucks too deep, the new trucks block the old trucks and they ship the new trucks but leave the old trucks to rot. Mine was built in early June but I didn’t take delivery till almost September.

I think the feds also put a stop briefly.
