    Is this the way?

Man says it easy, better, cheaper than a leafpack, and that everyone should do it:

Start here and read. There are some issues with the way he set this up some pretty big geometry ones. There's lots of ways to skin a cat you have to find what works for what you want to do. There is a lot to cover with this and that blanket statement is not 100% true. It should of said a well engineered and properly set up 3 link can be better at rock crawling than a leaf sprung set up. But even that you rise the question of why is it better because 3 link adds complication, still has major suspension geometry compromises, and takes a lot of forethought planning and understanding to execute well.

Might be better converting front end to a straight axle. Look up video from Fab Rats.

The only way it's cheaper than leaf springs is if you're an influencer and get all your parts for free. The way he's skipping reinforcing the frame is a sure way to break your frame at the mounts. Let's just give it a bit and see where this goes. Chances are he'll be redoing that rear suspension before the end of this year.

All parts are accurately located using a tape measure (smallest increment = 1/16 inch), then parts are jigged by hand during the tack process.......

    Surprised it works at all.

Thanks.....I'll stay with stock leaf suspension set up.

Another benefit of leaves is progressive loading.

If you use your truck as a truck (tow haul) leaves are better.

If you just use it as an off-road buggy sure coils are better.

Doing it right definitely ain't cheaper though, and a HELL of a lot more work.

Considering that a lot of race cars and many many many well built offroad vehicles are built this way that point is pretty mute. Especially when factory tolerances are A LOT more than 1/16". There are tape measures that'll go to 1/32" or 1mm.

We accurately located and set up my 63 leafs with a tape measure and actually improved the measurements post 63 swap than what the factory had done soooooo........ All we had was a lousy tape measure, no jig, and tacked everyhing in place.

So getting rid of a tried and proven rear truck leaf pack suspension for coils? How's that working out for the Jeep Gladiator?

ahhh....ya got me. I'm sure the F1, Indy, Nascar, Baja, MotoGP machines are tacked together using a tape measure and hand jigged. o_O

    How silly of me.....

Actually we built many cars tacking them together and using a tape measure and ran NASCAR weekly racing series. In fact they still use a tape measure to check square and stuff in NASCAR. Once everything is finalized they fully weld. In fact they still use old tech 68-72 truck arms for the rear suspension in NASCAR . But what would I know I just have friends that work for several teams and use to race in the weekly racing series. You might want to go tell Denis Taylor he's building Drag cars wrong without a jig and just using a tape measure and tacking things together before fully welding. Or the many other outlaw 10.5 racers etc. I'm sure Toyota from the factory makes sure everything is in a closer tolerance than 1/16". I can give 1000s more examples.
