I have searched and searched but can't really seem to find the answer I'm looking for. Looking for a tire that is good in deep snow. I just moved my mother by me (Marquette MI, she has alzheimer's) and we bought a Tacoma so I can get to her whenever I need to. Last year we got dumped on and had 3' of snow where I live south of town. Couldn't leave for 3 days because we have a Prius and they plow our road last.

I have winters for my Prius and man its like driving a different car in the winter. I dont think dedicated winters are good in deeper snow though. So looking at the Toyo AT3s in the stock 265/65/17. I know they're new so no real info on winters yet. Had K02s on my old Jeep. They were pretty good but on plowed/packed roads man they couldn't get traction.

My falkens have been great in the snow / ice / slush / etc

they are an AT tire but also 3 peak rated. I’ve never had issues with traction and there was times I wondered if I’d get stuck and they walked right through

I believe MT's are best for truly deep snow like you are describing. They will be terrible in light snow, though.

You want to get skinny tires, Here is a thread for your skinny tire needs. Skinny tires will cut through the snow, wide tires will sit on top of it till you start going, then they just dig into it. Ive spent the last 36 years in MN, 20 of them driving. Skinny tires have always been my winter tire of choice.

It sounds like you need a F250 with a snow plow.

Good year duratracs and BFG ko2s are decent well rounded tires. Duratracs can come with studs like true winter tires. Look for a soft comp. 3 peak rated with alot of siping.

Snow has too many different properties to find one tire that excels in all versions of deep snow. As other have said, a MT tire will be the best in bottomless snow, but will suck terribly in almost all other winter conditions. It’s gonna be a compromise no matter what you go with.

If you're going to be staying on roads, a dedicated winter tire will be your best bet. If getting 3' of snow is a regular occurrence, then maybe not. But, I wouldn't buy tires based on exceptional conditions. While some mud tires might be good for deep snow off-road, they're likely to be terrible in normal on road snow conditions.

Like @Shellshock , I have used 3PMSF all terrains on my trucks for the last 10-15 years with good results as well. An all terrain with this certification SHOULD perform well in snow. Do your research and read reviews, though, as some are better than others.

Thanks! This is why I'm thinking trying to keep with the stock sizing. Always read skinny is the way to go.

IMO a mud tire that is siped. I bought a tire groover "hot knife" and sipe my own tires. There good on the ice and even better in deep snow. 10 PSI in the tires and I'll drive around the guys with chains on!

I should've clarified a bit more. The 3' was an exception but it just got me thinking if it happens again and I NEED to get out. Thats why I'm looking at AT tires. Most of the time it'll be road driving and not deep stuff. Plus when I go hunting I want something that can take some light off roading.

Side note, really appreciate how cool everyone's been so far. Been on tons of fourms and its so hit or miss if people will be actually helpful or total dicks. So far it hasn't been the ladder.

Is it easy to do it yourself? Thought of this idea before also.

    I love Marquette!

Skinnier mud tires will help you sink to traction, but as stated already, are horrible in light snow or ice. What about a snowmobile?

I will say, I'd go for the tire that is going to be good 99% of the time over the tire that's only really for that 1% of the time you MAY need it. A good set of winters would be my vote. Maybe a lift or a snowmobile otherwise.

Definitely going to be doing a lift sometime. Just my bank account could use a little break after buying the truck. Snowmobile would be awesome if my wife wouldn't kill me if I bought one (she hates them...)
