well Hurricane Matthew left its mark on my new Taco. (Also first time I really needed the 4x4). There is a deep scratch on front bumper. Any suggestions on how to fill or mitigate? Thanks in advance

Most likely replace part, paint. I had my rear bumper scratched. Textured part can't be sanded to repaint, has to be replaced for correct paint job. So I'm told by two body shops.

An insurance claim will increase your policy costs for the next 3 years. Any damage under $2000 I don't report.

This is BS and quit repeating it. If your insurance goes up because of a storm claim, you just have crappy insurance.

I've claimed multiple things on my trucks in the 15 years I've had State Farm. Tree damage, vandalism, and 2 wrecks. My insurance has never gone up more than the regular couple bucks a year.

How's "The General" working for you now?

Seriously, I think insurance companies plant these thoughts in peoples head so they don't file claims. And where do people come up with the years? I've heard 3 years, 5 years, 7 years....what is it? I had an at fault accident and got a surcharge, not because I filed a claim, but because I had points on my license. The OP's license is not effected by hurricane matthew lol. If you cause an accident, yes your rates will increase. Hurricane Matthew was not the OP's fault or creation, filing a claim will not effect his rates as it does not mean he is a riskier driver. Now file 10 claims in a year, you might get investigated, but for f's sake use your insurance if you need to, that's why you pay for it.

That sucks but probably not worth a respray. I'd work on it with some touch up paint, once you get a few more of those go ahead and repaint it. Ask your dealership used car manager who does their small jobs like bumpers and such, they usually use a 3rd party shop that will do it for cheap.

Had a recent repair done on our RAV4 which cost me nearly 600 bones from the body shop Toyota uses in my area.

Can't you just figure out whether he can figure it out on his own, on your own?

Touche, but whether or not he can figure it out on his own, isn't the issue either? :)

Maybe I could "figure it out", but 1) I'm bummed my new truck got this and 2) I learn a lot on this forum - so asking others who have more experience/knowledge seemed like a good idea.

It's a comprehensive claim for an act of nature. Completely Non chargeable
If your deductible is 500 or less which most people comp deductible is, file a claim and have it fixed right.
If you have rental coverage, they will give you a car to drive around while your truck is being fixed also.
