Sitting at the dealer while I get my free maintenance service. What’s the deal with the Decarb service they offer? Is this legit useful or a scam?

If you're sitting right there why don't you just ask them?

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
Decarb can be one of two things. A fuel service (snake oil unless you have injector issues) or a throttle body clean.

fuel service is pointless. A throttle clean can help how the truck runs when a battery is replaced. But eh. They’re both cash grabs. Throttle clean is pretty quick and easy to DIY.

Some cars it is actually needed, but I dont think its needed for our trucks.

VWs had horrible carbon build up issues a few years back.

Carbon build up, wheel bearings, window regulators, and cheating emissions are all things germans do.

A tank or two of premium gas from one of the big brands will do about the same for about the same price.

DI cars without port injection do.

Toyota is actually smart and put injectors before the valves to prevent that mess.

that being said the services offered at dealers won’t clear valve carbon on. DI engine. We have a walnut blaster at work for the god awful supra (BMW) because it’s a DI only engine

When we did tdi carbon cleans, we would take a torch, air hose, and turn the exhaust manifolds into jet engines to burn it out. On the CC with 2.0tsi we had to pull the intake and soak them, then run a cleaner at like 4000 rpm for 2 hours.

Its too hard to get into all the little areas in the manifolds to properly clean them. So people do this and it just burns everything out.
