I have called several local dealerships and all of them are selling a tri-fold tonneau cover for the 2017 Tacoma. What I can't figure out is the manufacturer of that cover. I want to know the approx cost so I don't pay double to get it from the dealership parts center. Also would like to watch an install video if one was avail. Any idea on this? I believe the OEM cover is installed before delivery, so this isn't that cover??? The cost at all the dealerships is about $800. Thanks!

You can find the part numbers for them on toyota oem parts websites. It'll be about $1,000. There's some thread on here that list everything you need. Search.

The factory Toyota tonneau is Extang. If you can buy one from a dealer for $800, that sounds reasonable.

How accurate is that? I don't see any extang coverings using the pre-tapped holes.

If its not an OEM cover it is probably going to cost you more through the dealership, they are going to have their markup
There are a few aftermarket companies, Extang, Bakflip, truxedo to name a few.
There are several threads on here where you can see a few different ones mounted and get an idea of what you like.

Not sure what you are asking. I looked at buying an Extang from a accessory shop and it was going to run $1000 plus install. I thought he said he was quoted $800 from a dealer. If so, that sounds like a great price to me. I found a guy that had one on his truck from the factory and I bought his for next to nothing.

The factory cover is not an extang cover.

I really like the quality of my OEM cover. I recommend you find the part #'s you need and do it yourself. Install is very simple!

The master pricing list in the sticky threads says the tonneau cover costs $579 invoice/ $650 MSRP. Not sure if that's the same one you are asking about? It's the only tonneau cover in the accessories list.

The factory cover is just beginning to be sold at dealerships from what I was told, the service manager said it will cost around 1100. I say find someone selling the one off their truck. I really like mine and I think the quality is excellent.

Don't know first hand, but I've heard often that the factory tonneau is crap. Leaks, tears, bubbles etc. in addition I think that have to cut into the bedrails to make it work. I would check into after market units too.

I have the Extang Tri-fold 2.0 (or something like that), and it is NOT the dealer model. When I got my TRD Sport in early 2016, the dealer installed tonneau required cutting into the side rail for bolts that protruded absurdly! That is why I did not get it. Someone on Tacoma World posted pictured of those bolts protruding into the bed area.

Here is the picture I mentioned of the setup for the dealer's tonneau (at least in early 2016), showing cuts to the side rails and the bolts protruding.

I would have to disagree, based on first hand experience. As long as you close it properly it's a VERY solid option. My only complaint is it doesnt fold up vertically against the rear window. Quality wise it's very well made in my opinion. I have experience with high end aftermarket "leather" type options (not the cheap snap ones) and I think this far exceeds that quality. I'm not sure how it could leak, tear, or bubble, given its a solid hard thick plastic unit. You do have to swap bedrails for installation, given the tonneau locks into the integrated tracks.

I'll agree with @PHLinPHX also from first hand experience. Mine's been quite solid for the past few months. It'll leak a little bit in heavy downpours but not enough that I've been bothered. No more so than other folding tonneaus (including the Extang) without special drain channels impinging into the bed space. Posts have never been in the way, other stuff seems to be the limiting factor, I'll have a look and try to quantify that for folks curious.

As to the cutouts in the rails, I don't know how that goes when buying one from a dealer, when I got my truck they were available only from the factory. Most folks buying one used just swap rails with whomever is selling theirs. Worst case you could always just buy replacement rails of either type (cut or uncut) for $100 per side. https://parts.conicellitoyotaofcons...ngine/body-cat/exterior-trim-pick-up-box-scat

I think the angle of this pic makes them look like they stick out further than they actually do. Also wouldn't see why that half inch of lost space would be a deal breaker...the cleats are sticking out 2 inches past that pin, and the bottom of the bed is probably narrower side to side than the top is Pin to Pin. Maybe I'm biased because I like my tonneau, and I'm sure there are reasons to get a different cover...but I can't see the pins as being one of them.

The factory is not an extang tonneau. I was looking into the factory but it wasn't available for the long bed so I bought the extang 2.0. I didn't like the extang logo so I peeled it off to look more like factory. Works pretty much the same. Easy install. I did it in about 30 mins. Not totally water proof, but I knew that going into it. I have some water dripping off the sides in some spots. I bought some weatherstripping and will address that soon. It's not enough to really bother me. Plus I have the bed mat so any water that goes in goes under the mat and everything up top stays dry.
The other extang encore is nice because you can open it from the top section, but that one requires drain lines to be drilled. That's the reason I went with the 2.0... Got it from autoanything under msrp chatting with them online. I think it was 780 shipped. Brackets go into the existing bed rail for install so no cutting on this tonneau. For the money I would recommend it.

Center console divider thingy, rubber bed mat and side steps for the wife.
I had a Tonneau on my F250 and really like the security. Ordered the factory one on my Limited after some back and forth and thought it was a pretty good deal for the price.
