What is the current average cost of an oil change at your local dealership? I could change it myself like all my other vehicles but don't want to purchase the tools just for one change as I really need to get a full size truck and it may not be a Tundra.

Mine is somewhere around $50-60 if I remember right. I like doing my own, but the apartment complex doesn't really allow for that. Plus I can blame the dealership if something is wrong

I'd trust Jiffy Lube before the Dealership. At least that's mostly what JL does. And the great thing is you're in and out in 15 minutes.

The dealership usually checks a lot of other things, in the meantime, as well. They also use OEM parts when replacements are needed.

    ^ Couldn't agree more.
Didn't even take my truck to the dealer for the freebie changes.

OP, kudos for doing the right thing by the truck, even though it's a short timer.

The 3rd gens have cartridge oil filters. Regular oil filter wrenches won't work on it without damage.

JL or the quick change places are great, especially if you travel a lot. Never have to get out of your car, they even show you your oil level after they change it (covers their ass). You only have to say no to the coolant flush, injector cleaner, wiper blades and the other stuff they try to sell you.

Should have asked this, do you have to change your oil if you're trading it in or getting another truck?

Just got mine changed this week from the Dealership. $51.74 out the door for Tacoma's V6 3.5 liter engine, 6.1 quarts of OW-20 engine oil. I've seen as high as $92 from Dealerships that only an idiot would pay. The Dealerships (Not just Texas but all over CONUS) came up with a new game by telling you to go online and download a coupon. I tell them if ya can't beat $54 out the door, your rival Toyota Dealership will. They scramble on their computer and say "hey man I found ya a coupon and we can match $54. What a joke. I was recently told that now even the service technicians are getting a commission for everything they try to sell ya. But even after the back and forth haggling, I would really avoid the "jiffy lubes", "quick lubes", etc, those are 18 year old kids you are putting your $30,000 plus pickup truck into their hands. No thanks.

Dealer isn't too expensive, plus they rotate the tires as part of the service here in Va Beach. AND, if they screw something up, they'll fix it, like when they probably impact wrenched the front splash guard bolt and killed the threads. They made it right when I found it rattled after my service.

As long as you can trust the dealers workmanship, I think $60 is a good buy.

That’s only the the V6. My 4 cyl. 2TR-FE engine has the spin on filter and I’m glad it does.

Got a coupon in the mail this week from my dealer at $29.99 for filter and 5 quarts of full synthetic oil. Our trucks hold more so the cost would only be a few dollars more. But I still change the oil myself plus rotate the tires at the same time. Doesn't take much time with the right tools and I know it's done right. Would never trust JL and others as my neighbor took his brand new truck in for it's first oil change and after driving 15 miles home got a phone call from the saying that the thought their technician forgot to put oil back in the truck. He went out and checked and sure enough, zero oil. When he and his attorneys got through with them he had a brand new engine. Not sure about warning lights or gauge but either way that was the outcome. BTW Oil Express close to me quoted $82. Ridiculous

Excellent point. You get more security/clout from the Dealership than a Jiffy Lube. I worked in that industry for one year then left when I saw the corruption and lies when trying to make a sell. And Jiffy Lube was at the top of the list !

Most Dealerships are great, but not all of them. All it takes is one millenial or ky jelly gen or whatever they're called to post their latest tiktok video and forget to fill your oil and out the door it goes.

I agree 100%. That's why I shop around for the best Toyota Dealership "apples to apples" comparison every 10,000 miles. :playball:
