This was pretty much my sentiment as well. It's been a month, and at some point the responsibility shifts to you to take care of your vehicle. I'm not saying don't try, just saying don't get your hopes up. Especially if they still haven't replaced whatever other piece you're referencing.

That said, I am surprised there isn't a code that gets thrown if the oil cap is missing, considering all the other sensors there are. Hell, the headlights turn off automatically but if you leave them on the display still tells you to turn the lights off when you cut the engine.

Ain't a big deal, go to any parts store and ask for a new 710 cap for your truck.

This. Plus the time spent either waiting at the dealer or getting a ride to and from is time I'd rather spend doing just about anything else. I can generally do a 5K mile service myself, in my garage in less than 30 minutes. I did my first oil change on my Taco last December and it took close to an hour, but that included a lot of time laying under it looking at how it's put together. The next one will be faster.

exactly, waiting 3 hours at the dealership for an oil change and tire rotation, no thanks even if it's free

for v6 Tacoma, get a Baxter adaptor, TRD Pro skid plate, fumoto or valvemax drain valve, I can assure that you can complete the 5k service with much ease in less than 30 mins:
    1. jack up the truck, 5 mins
    2. drain the old oil for 10 mins (in the meantime, do the tire rotation while the truck is on 4 jack stands)
    3. after you finish the tire rotation, open the TRD Pro skid plate panel access for oil filter, might get a bit messy with spin-on filter but less than 10 mins including clean up.
    4. pour 6 qts and call it good (at this point I don't even bother checking dipstick, 6 qts will get you just slightly under MAX line which is good enough, I'd rather have a bit under filled than slightly over filled)

You know, I can honestly believe that would happen.

Part of my job is running CO calls. The worst are late at night and old ladies who can't be bother to actually read anything. I have gone to WAY to many CO calls where the complaint is the detector [nighthawk] is going off for CO and has reads. Go there and the detector is chirping [remember when I said they won't read instructions?] every 15 or 30 seconds and the detector is upside down reading 97. Now, flip that detector right side up and what does it now say? Lb, or, if they read the directions right on the detector or in the manual.......Low battery. I just sigh, shake my head, understand why their hubby passed on years ago, read the directions to them and turn in my time to get paid.

It's worse after a power outage as the internal battery will last awhile but enough time will drain it.

I’m really surprised you didn’t have a fine mist of oil sprayed inside your engine compartment.
That cap is garbage! Doesn’t say TRD.

Life's too short to get all worked up over an oil cap, especially when you don't know for sure they left it off. I really doubt that any damage could occur from leaving an oil cap off for 1,000 miles.
In addition, that's probably the least risk you are taking from having a dealer change your oil. I'd just purchase another oil cap call it a day and be thankful they didn't leave your drain plug out.

I went to O'Reilly's this morning and purchased an oil cap. On all my prior vehicles I've done the oil changes my self, but my train of though was hey 2 years of free maintenance why the hell not?. I'm going tomorrow to get an OEM oil cap from them and the other part that went missing while it was in their hands. As far as I can see I do not see any spray on the engine bay. I am thankful the V6 models have the long fill tube or it would have been a mess!. According to the carfax report they did the 5k service and "changed the oil". On the document print out from them it states "no oil change". No idea why they would mess around with the oil fill cap.

I only went to get the 6 month tire rotation, the carfax says they did an oil change. Paperwork says otherwise :notsure:

contact toyota about that discrepancy, I would say they need to do an oil change regardless due to the possibility of added exposure to the elements (leaves, dirt, pollen, and what not)

    Carfax is overrated.

If you find something on it to eliminate a purchase, well and good.

If you think the vehicle is stellar because Carfax is clean, you may be misled. You're holding a sample of that in your hand. One oil change that didn't happen.

Don't think it was, I went in today to get the door panel screw cover (it went missing when they serviced it) and had them change the oil. They did not give me a new oil cap, manger only approved the oil change. The service guy made it seem like I was lying and that I must have lost the cap. Not the way to conduct business, definitely not going back to Charles Maund Toyota for new purchases and service.
    Yes, you don't? lol

I had "a free" oil change done once at my local dealer. They left the oil cap off. I made them drive to me and return my oil cap.
I have since been banned from setting foot in this dealership, which is fine by me. Bunch of fucking thieves!

I’m in the F dealerships camp..they charge you outrageous prices and do subpar work intermittently.... the problem I think is that they just don’t give a flying flip because is all about the $$ so they rush and miss things .....sometimes what they miss is important sometimes it’s important later. And of course they will almost always try to weasel out of there responsibility. JM2CW.

I don't really have anything against my local dealer, though years ago I had a bad service experience at another Toyota dealer in another So.Cal. city however for me it's a time thing; I don't have or want to spend the time waiting around for a dealership to do a task I'm perfectly capable and qualified to do myself. I keep oil and filters on a shelf in my garage so if I have some down-time I can do an oil change in less than an hour, probably closer to 30 minutes (depending on which one of my cars or trucks I'm working-on). One pair of disposable Nitrile gloves, 2-4 Blue Shop Towels and a squirt of Fast Orange hand cleaner generally takes care of any mess.

As far as tire rotations (since someone brought it up) I'm in the no camp on that. I've found that as long as the front end alignment is good, you don't drive like a maniac the tires on my trucks seem to all wear pretty evenly (front wheel drive cars are another matter). The fact that three years ago I had a back injury which makes me think twice about schlepping heavy things (like wheels and tires) around might also have something to do with my opinion on tire rotations as well.
