    Hi guys:

I got me a 2017 4x4 tacoma with a blown up transfer case (lots of unpleasant noises) that I'm quite sure is the result of misusing the 4x4 system on pavement over years (long story, previous owner was young....).

Roughly, what am I looking at parts & labor to have a new transfer case put in by a dealer (or maybe a transmission shop)? I do not have the space or time to do anything myself. The local dealer service department wont even give me a ballpark...

Thanks in advance for your help! :)

I appreciate the input, but a fluid change is definitely not going to cut it here...the internals sound like they've got broken teeth....

True, a fluid change won’t fix your issue. Since you will probably be getting a new transfer case, you might be mindful of what brand of fluid and weight they use if you are given a choice.

    Welcome to the forum :hattip:

People crash these trucks every day, I would have a reputable independent shop put a used transfer case in.

A good shop will have used part suppliers that they work with regularly.

Have them use the genuine Toyota fluid as well.

I had to buy my OEM fluid online. My local dealer does not keep it in stock. Makes me wonder what fluid they use if their service department is working on a transfer case.

Why do you think they are all telling you about fluid? Anyway I would be looking for a used one from a salvage yard. If you can put it in at home you will save a ton of money.
