Does the dealer do a more thorough clean of the injectors than dumping a can of cleaner in the gas tank?

I doubt they will hook it up properly, a lot of lazy techs will dump the chemical in the tank and claim its been done.

The 3.4 is a bastard to hook up a purge system.

The idea is a pressurized 100% purge system that uses only the cleaner and bypasses the gasoline in the truck. It directly cleans the port injectors and the valves.

I rarely sell EFI flushes, but when I do I set the truck to 2500rpm and blow through the purge HOT.

But as mentioned the 3.4 is hard to set up and I've seen other techs give up and dump the chem in the tank and let the customer think they've got a clean.

It is REALLY good for the truck if done right (hot). Especially on older models with EGR, it cleans off years of carbon and free's up old injectors.

TLDR: Skip it, unless its a trusted shop/tech.

Send your injectors to a place that refurbishes them or buy some from a place that refurbishes them if you don't want your rig to be out of commission while you're waiting for your injectors to be returned. The video below will help you out:

I live next to “Toyota of Orange”, they sell the most Toyota’s out of any dealer in the country. I’m sure they wouldn’t skimp me on injector cleaning?

Their sales don't mean shit when it comes to the quality of their service department. Dealership mechanics screw up all the time. To clean and service the injectors, the injectors need to come out. I can't imagine what a dealership with their expensive hourly rates would charge to remove the injectors, service them, reinstall them and put the engine back together. Better to do the job yourself and make sure it's done right. There's lots of places that service injectors. I link a place in Los Angeles I've used a couple times. They do great work and the owner is a cool dude.

the BG brochure shows a different picture with 2 or maybe 3 different products used iirc

how do they justify well over $200 to just put a can of cleaner in the tank

The BG kit is stupid easy to hook up on modern Toyotas, GMs etc.

The 3.4 is miserable to interupt the fuel system, you're supposed to sandwitch the fuel fittings with a plate, and many flat rate techs can't be bothered.

Beware of counterfeit injectors. There are a lot of new counterfeit injectors around from China. Here's how to spot a counterfeit. Counterfeits have not been tested. There is a chance one or more of the injectors will not work properly when installed.

    upload_2019-9-23_6-20-28.jpg

Non counterfeit will have a testing lot number stamped under the part number to indicate the batch of injectors passed QC testing before it left the factory.

You can spot other tell tale signs between the counterfeit and the OEM injector body and pintle cap.

for that reason i think i would not mind the opportunity to see the tech being 'bothered' and trying to skimp on the pricey paid service and not doing the job right.

do they just disconnect where the main fuel line comes in from right off the filter (near the brake fuild res?)

Had this done to my 2004 Taco at the "Stealership." Full replacement... Cost me ~$700 (if I remember correctly), but I had no issues afterwards.

If it is a lifetime part, then why do they sell replacements? LOL. Unless our Tacoma's have 9 lives.

To answer your actual question, the injector service, or induction service as I typically call it, is normally a 2 or 3 step process. At my shop (Chevy dealer) we will put a fuel additive in the tank, clean the throttle body/plate, and then run a foaming cleaner through the intake manifold from the throttle body with the engine running to clean the valves, injectors, and (theoretically) tops of the pistons. And yes, the service is actually performed and not just dumped in the fuel tank. Contrary to common belief on this site, not all dealer techs are thieves.

i am just relaying info provided to me by my local trusted Toyota expert certified mechanics
nothing more than that, i certainly do not think it is!

but some techs out there do leave parts they damaged just hanging in there (in my recent experiences) and do not make customer aware they broke something and let you find out many months later (or years in one instance)

body shop techs take stuff off and do not put back on properly as it was
all the little things just add up over time
