I’m a little late to this thread but I’m in the process of putting 8 inch sylvesters in the front and 6.5s in the rear. I know the 6.5s will fit up front if the adapter is 3/4 inch or thicker but I have to do an inch spacer for my 8s to clear the window when rolled down. I can’t speak for the rears since I have a double cab, but mine passed the test fit just fine.

@Corny Taco do you have any pictures of your front door speakers, did you make your own speaker adapters or buy? Did you have to trim anything?

I’m still working on deadening my doors, the setup still isn’t installed yet. Started a new career shortly after posting on this thread last year so free time only comes sparingly now. Here are some links to what I’m using.

Running these 8 inch speaker rings for the fronts. Amazing quality CNC’d ABS plastic. Excellent customer service as well.

These the AP M81SL 8 inch Deaf Bonce Sylvesters that I’m running in the front.

These are the AP M60SQL 6.5 inch Deaf Bonce Sylvesters that I’m running in the rear. I’m just using cheap metra adapters from Amazon with these but I’ll probably upgrade down the road.

All of the speakers are running on this Skar RP 150.4

For Tweets, I have a pair of these Skar SPX-T’s running on head unit power, but I’m picking up another pair soon and running them on an additional small amp.

Regarding trimming, due to the height of the front adapters, I do not have to do any trimming besides cutting the plastic sound funneling ring thingy inside the door cards. You’ll want to do this on any install anyways since foam rings will always be superior. In the picture below, you can zoom in to where the tools are sitting and see where I cut it.

Are you planning on replacing the speaker grill so the 8's aren't firing into the back of the door panel?

I thought about this and almost got door pods, but I concluded that the cost and labor to do that outweighed the benefits. Not a lot is being blocked, maybe half an inch on top and bottom at most.

I was thinking more along the lines of vibration from the sound wave hitting the solid panel. Especially as you went to the effort to deaden the panel. If you/re running a sub as well it shouldn't be too much of a problem though.

Yeah it’s a possibility, but I think that me be excessive about the sound deadening should minimize it. And yes, I’m running a sub with this setup. Skar VXF on a D4S JP23. These haven’t been installed yet either. It’s killing me because I wanna hear it all sooooo bad.
