Looking at buying a 3rd Gen and I def need the double cab.

Have multiple friends who have OR's w/ the 5ft bed or Pro's and both say they wish they could have the extra room of a 6ft bed. I currently have a Tundra w/ 6ft bed and had (2) tacomas w/ 6 ft beds.

Have also heard mentioned that the DCLB OR doesn't ride as well off road due to the longer wheelbase/frame length and that there might be less aftermarket parts avail for the 6ft bed? Any merit to this?

Usage: Daily driving, winter driving on mountain pass roads for snowboarding, off roading to get to mountain biking, camping, not super likely to have a RFT or full overland setup or hard core wheeling mods.

    Thanks for any personal insights.

I've had both a DCSB and a DCLB 3rd Gen Tacoma.

Get the DCLB if you want that extra space.

It has none of the drawbacks you mention, apart from maybe, possibly, having a harder time finding bolt-on sliders.

Other than that it is a fantastic choice that does not fall short in any noticeable way, on road or off road.

To add to the above. LB's have better stability while towing, if thats your thing. The only downside from an offroad perspective is the breakover angle but only matters if you are doing some serious trails and bottoming out.

LB turning radius suffers with the extra foot of frame between the wheels. I still manage to flip u turns and get around the underground parkade though.

DCLB OR for me too. I use the bed of my truck for a lot of different things. The extra room is definitely worth getting a LB.

I needed short bed to fit in the garage. Was really the driving factor for me. No regrets for that.

    DCSB for me.
LB is too long for my garage.

    Like, so many.
My last truck had a 6 ft bed. My current truck has the short bed. I only miss it occasionally. It does what I need it to do and I like the aesthetics better.

That's a good point/thing I hadn't considered, TY. I will be towing a trailer at times in the Summer and likely will be longer distance road trips, so the added stability would be nice.

Good to know. Guessing it's no different radius from my Tundra, which I've adapted to, so might be fine.

I would have opted for DCLB as well, but..., no manual transmission can be had for the DCLB.

generally speaking- a longer wheelbase will handle better on road and a shorter wheelbase will be better for off-road
    again,,,, generally speaking

I have had a 3rd Gen OffRoad with the long bed. LOVED the bed size. That 13" doesn't sound like much, but it's over 20% longer. That's significant in my book. My new Tacoma is an SR dblcab cause I just wanted it as a no frills run-around work truck. I'm a real estate appraiser in rural So Illinois. It is only offered with a 5ft bed in the States. In Canada, it is offered with the long bed. I find that really weird but that's for another day. IF the SR would have been available with the long bed here, I would have gotten it. Garage space is no issue. And there will come a time, I wish I had it...

DCLB here.. while it is a bit longer, at least it's still narrow like all the other tacomas. You can squeeze through the same gaps regardless of bed length. Anything bigger than a tacoma feels too big. I don't know how people drive Tundras and full size rigs in the city

unless you're rock crawling, are limited by garage/parking space, or just like to play tetris with your stuff, go for the long bed.

If you're not hardcore wheeling then the DB cab with the 6 foot box will be fine offroading, the extra room in the bed is awesome. I'm holding out for an Offroad with the db cab 6 foot box before I buy something new.

The other thing to mention is if you ever want to sleep in the back you'll want a 6ft bed..

My opinion 5ft looks better. I haven’t slept in my truck bed since college. Living in the city I decided 5 ft bed (less house and property projects) easier to park!

I'm a DCLB. I wanted it for the space. I only see myself doing light-duty off-roading, so that's not an issue for me. It barely fits in the garage. I double check every time to make sure its tail feathers are all the way in before closing the garage door. :D
