Might be passing down my 3rd Gen DCLB to my father since his tundra just died on him... Planning on giving my dad my 3rd gen taco. Trying to figure out when kind of rig I want......

DCSB = Hate having a short bed...
DCLB = To long for trails..... (pain in the ass to park in crowded area)
ACLB = Want to carry passengers....

    Any input? :anonymous:

    I wanted the ACLB.

Always thought the DCSB looked funky with the rear wheels wells right against the cab.

Theres only one bed offered for the access cab so there is no such thing as an "access cab long bed" its just an ACCESS CAB!

    So your choices are:
    Double cab short bed
    Double cab long bed
    ACCESS CAB

My vote is DCSB. Back seat is for the doggo not people! ;)

Now since it’s just me and my wifey, wished I got the access cab. How often have someone sat in the rear seat.

I went back and forth between DCSB and DCLB and chose SB for several reasons (the AC wasn’t even on my radar because I have 2 kids). My DCSB doesn’t have a great turning radius to begin with and I often have to make a 3 point turn to get into (and out of) parking spots when the rows are close - and the DCLB’s turning radius is just that much worse with the super long wheelbase. The DCLB is too long for some parking spots (either hanging out into the lane/street) and rarely enough room to parallel park one. More importantly, it’s too long for the average garage, including mine.

One of the things that I thought I wanted a LB for was to have the option to sleep back there, but then I got real with myself and remembered I hate winter camping, and I’m not some youtube truck camper. I much prefer my tent in any weather… I can stand up in it and get dressed vertically, put a cot in there and be able to sit down, chill, sleep better on it, etc… I have a 3rd gen 4Runner that I’ve slept in many many times, and I don’t enjoy it. It takes me about the same 5 minutes to get my tent set up as it does to clear everything out of the back of the 4Runner to be able to sleep back there, so it’s definitely not any more convenient, and much less comfy. I’m not hauling tall furniture with my truck, and with my camper shell on my SB, I have plenty of room for all my work or play stuff in my SB.

Another thing was, the dealer had a couple DCSB 4x4s on the lot at the time (pre-chip shortage), and I was able to haggle a few thousand off the sticker price. If I had to have a DCLB, it would have had to been ordered, and they told me straight out they wouldn’t drop the price a penny, so I saved $4-5K with my DCSB.

    My personal opinion:

I think the fact that Toyota refuses to offer a manual transmission in the long bed format is utterly :crapstorm:

Pickup trucks were invented to HAUL and TOW things around. Therefore, why would anyone want a short bed as a daily driver? Or for much else other than perhaps extremely custom situations, like making it into a dedicated hard core rock crawler.

I would love a Double Cab, Long Bed, with 6 speed MT combo. But it doesn't exist. At least not in the United States....

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
My previous DCLB was a pain in the ass to park at a WalMart or most restaurants. It could be done, but it took more work than it needed to. I love the look of my AC, I don't need the rear seat room any more. The only bitch I have is the suicide doors, they are a pain in the ass loading groceries (or whatever) in the AC if someone is parked next to me.

    Great review/info.

Everyone has different needs and is willing to tolerate some shortfalls.

Glad you got lower price on your truck.

I'm sure I can park my DCSB/AT in the garage but I have to make room first to test it--a tight fit for sure.

Sounds like OP wants a long bed.
