    Duct tape?

there is a little access hole on the bottom side of the headlight. I haven’t actually gotten around to playing with it, but I’d bet one of the wires in it would do it. If you disconnected the parking lights and jumper out the DRL so it stays on, you could do it too. You’ll lose the side marker though, and the DRL will be full brightness as opposed to dimmed like it is supposed to be.

Oh, I forgot to mention I agree with you in wanting to just get rid of that lighted part. It’s on my list, but I move at a glacial pace for sure

Quick guide for these headlights and the DRL's. Depending on how you have things turned on or off:

    1. Headlight switch to AUTO in Daylight = Full brightness DRL only. If DRL option turned off in the head unit, no DRL's will be on.
    2. Headlight switch to Parking Lights Mode & Fogs Off = Full brightness DRL + cornering light (orange on side) + that other white light on the bottom.
    3. Headlight switch to Parking Light & Fogs On = Dimmed DRL's + cornering light + other white light
    4. Headlights on (by AUTO darkness or switch on) = Dim DRL's, all other lights on (except high beams).

I also recall a circumstance in which only the small light patch and cornering lights were lit in the Parking Lights mode (no DRL at all). I think DRL had to be turned off in the head unit, and the light sensor had to detect a daylight condition.

You have two functions in the pictures. your headlight is with headlights on, the other is with just the parking lights on.

Two weeks into ownership of a 3rd gen Tacoma with DRL's, my first experience with them. My light switch has an auto position; when the switch is in that position, my DRL's are on; unfortunately my state requires a safety inspection sticker on the right lower portion of the windshield; my safety sticker is significantly blocking the light sensor located on the dashboard in that area, thus my DRL's generally go on & off (on or full headlights with indicator on dash) depending on how much light gets past the safety sticker. Contemplating visiting the dealership to inquire about re-locating the sticker a little higher on the windshield....

I think you may be on to something. I dont have super dark tint on the windshield, i dont think (enough to be noticeable at least) and just the other day I was wondering why my low beams are on sometimes during early hours and cloudy days when there's still some good sunshine out Feel a bit silly to have not considered this being why before

You can also just unplug the light sensor if you don't care about the auto feature which I did on mine. Now with it in auto mode DRL is always on and headlights won't turn on when it gets dark.

Doesn’t help with ops original post, but there’s an ecu setting accessible through techstream/Carista that affects the auto headlight threshold:

    Auto headlights activation threshold
    Darkest
    Darker
    Normal
    Lighter
    Lightest

Could be useful for tinted windshield bros
