    Hello everyone,

I have a 1999 Toyota Tacoma. My dashboard lights in the heater/AC control panel have burned out. I took off the panel cover, knobs, handles, and AC button and tried to replace the #74 bulbs, using the information on the DIY on the 1st generation Tacoma forums. The new #74 replacement bulbs that I installed on the heater/AC control panel doesn't work in either of the 2 positions. Does anyone know what's the best way to repair this issue?

    probably fuses.

there are 2 boxes, one under the hood, and one under the driver side kick panel.

Thanks for responding to my thread. I did check both 10 amp fuses for the control panel in the engine bay and the driver side kick panel. Both fuses are in good condition. The other dashboard lights on the temperature/tachometer/spedometer/fuel/ashtray/AC/glovebox light up when I turn on the lights. Are there any other suggestions on how to fix this issue?

get a volt meter and start tracing where you get voltage...

You say you checked the two 10A panel fuses, but there's another a/c fuse under the hood (10A), check that too.

I've had fuses blow that on initial inspection look good, but sometimes you have to look pretty closely.

Do the dash lights dim with a rheostat?

@jbrandt: I used the spare 10A fuse and tried it on the gauge & AC positions. It still doesn't illuminate the heater/AC dash panel. Where would I start to measure for voltage with a mulitmeter?

@File IFR: What is a rheostat? I adjusted the dashboard lights with the dimmer control on the lower left. The dimmer control works properly.

I would start where you know the problem is. The light sockets. Tho I don't know if you can get the voltmeter leads in the sockets...

Check the tail light fuse underneath the hood. I had the same problem with my 01 last week.

Thanks for the suggestion. I visually inspected the 10A fuse for the tail light at the fuse box in the engine bay. The fuse looks to be in good condition. I also tested it for continuity with a multimeter. The fuse shows continuity. The tail lights work properly, but it didn't solve my non working climate control dashboard light issue.

I'm still dealing with burned out lights on the AC/heater control panel. I watched a few YouTube videos and noticed that you can replace the bulb sockets on the climate control module to get the light working again. Does anyone know what the part number is for climate control module light bulb socket? If you can't replace the light bulb socket, is there an alternative part that can be used to replace the light socket? Can the light socket be repaired?

Sockets need a little help in their old age-
    Make sure lights are off
    Remove bulb from socket
use pick or tiny screwdriver to slightly pull contacts closer to bulb position. Just a tiny amount here, don't break anything.
Re-insert new bulb and check your work. Sometimes you need ot re-arrange the contacts on the bulbs as well to make things work best

Are the new bulbs LED? If so, you might just have to reverse the polarity.

I bought the Toyota 90010-05120 Bulbs from eBay and replaced all three bulbs in my 02.

I had to take out the whole climate control module and take it apart to replace the bulbs from the back. Definitely worth it.
