First off, I know there are several threads on this topic already but the ones that I could find are outdated and not for 2nd gens (not that it matters but it helps) :)

    20201008_151941.jpg
    20201228_154825.jpg

So, I currently have a roav duo (one for myself and one for the ladies vehicle) for about 2 years now. They're great in so many ways but struggling in the equal amount. They annoyingly like to freeze and the worst part is most of the time they don't record the most important part of an accident lol. If at all...

The reason I haven't switched them out yet is because they'll start working properly when I decide to scrap them lol. I know I properly installed and modified them. They are both running off an external battery to keep the watch 24/7 and using micro SD cards for memory. I restart them periodically to refresh them as well and heat never seems to faze them because of the non lithium battery.

So here's the last straw... Tonight a dominos delivery driver crashed into my girlfriends parked car in front of our house and neither of our dash cams caught it!!!

    :annoyed:

So enough of why I hate my current setup...

I'm reaching out to see if anyone can recommend a current reliable kick ass dash cam with hopes of GSenor, wifi, constant monitoring, night vision, hardwired maybe, constant loop recording, etc. I would like to continue use the birddawg mirror risor ae a mounting point. :)

Thanks in advance and much appreciated!

    Theo

I'm not. I didn't know that was a thing lol. Unfortunately it's been cold here in SD lately and heat hasn't been a factor because both dash cams are still being jerks. Unless the previous heat waves did some damage unknown to me.

I will definitely grab a couple for this summer, thanks on that

Ya lol they're just basic sandisk micro SD cards. I think I have some extra laying around, Ill pop them in and see if anything changes.

I was considering a rexing cam, should I avoid it?

I’m using a Rexing V5. Its been great for the past 4 months. I had an older Rexing model prior for 5 years w no issue. That’s installed into my 4Runner now. I do have the recommended class 10 cards these cameras need. Rexing has sales all the time so be on the look out in their website.

Just only the camera device. The upper left is my alarm antenna. The rear view mirror is sitting on a Birdawg Industries mirror riser and the 2nd cord out of the V5 runs to a rear camera. I have since removed it because it was useless against my back windows on 5% tint with a campershell.
    https://www.rexingusa.com/landing-page-all-dash-cams/

I'll be switching to a new setup pretty soon to clean up the clutter. Nothing wrong with the current Rexing V5. The new setup will be cleaner with a modern appearance. Taking into account of a future swingout tire carrier, I have a plan that will incorporate front and rear dashcams while providing an unobstructed view of the rear full time tied into one package.

Here's the new setup. Records front/rear in 2k+1080p. I haven't mount the rear camera yet, but with that addition I'll be able to have an unobstructed view of the rear when the tire carrier is on full time. I did have to order the optional bracket as I didn't want the mirror clamped onto the oem mirror with rubber straps. Much cleaner look with the full mirror replacement.

Right on! That's pretty sweet, looks really good. Sits pretty clean with the bird dawg. I also like how the OEM mirror looks intergraded into the new one.

I'll check it out and if you don't mind I might ask you some questions :D

Thanks and again look real good

Cool setup. Very sleek. One question though....if someone moves the mirror, do you have to reposition the camera?

Unless something changed recently, I will say to avoid rexing for one important reason. Most of their models don't have an active buffered parking mode. They are great cams otherwise, but my V1 will only start recording the instant it feels an impact. About once every few months I'll have to go in and clear out all the videos of me slamming my car door, I guess I need to not gorilla it so much. :anonymous: But going through those videos got me thinking - its only going to capture half of a parked hit and run, and there could have been critical info on the events leading up to.

Instead of the V1, try the Viofo A129 instead. Exact cam setup as the V1, slightly better sensor, and it has a 20 second parking buffer so it starts recording prior to impact.

Not necessarily as the camera is wide angle lens. I still need some fine tuning. The metal arm is quite sturdy.

Well that looks like a winner. Has everything from my check list and you addressed a few of the major issues I'm having with my unit . My roav duo always seems like it's too busy sleeping to catch the whole event. And if it does it only catches before or after lol. Which is insane, that's kind of a massive issue. Not to mention the menu freezing constantly.

I will definitely consider this one. The only thing is, I wish it had better mounting hardware. I'd like to mount it to my mirror risor like the current unit.

Oh right, I see you have an 09. I picked that wedge shape because it's easy to mount to the GoPro hanger.

Ah.. 3rd gen life huh? lol. I'm sure if it's a solid cam and I'm happy with it I could figure something out. Does anything come off the back? What does it look like?

I think it comes with a little adhesive plate that will stick to the windshield. So you can mount it wherever you like.

I don't see must a difference in specs besides the lens quality so I think I'm going to grab this one:

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08DV51H2X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_YZNPMFJA9DFGYJWR8HBK

Just for a little added protection. Will the backup cam see through 5% tint? We'll see lol

I just put in the APEMAN C450. I think it's a little too basic for you are looking for but so far it does everything I need it to. Continuous recording (on a loop once it fills the 64GB card). Great view (170 wide angle). It has shock sensor and you could hardwire it if you wanted to (i did not) which means you could have the parking mode enabled. No wifi so no viewing on your phone or anything. Basic, but also super cheap.
