Be careful about buying a used tailgate from someone as your probably getting a stolen one . I would just go thru your insurance then have your vin # etched onto it

I was thinking about that. I see all these tailgates on Craigslist and wondering why anyone would get rid of theirs. I'll ask a few questions before I buy for sure.

Sorry about your tailgate. I installed a Pop and Lock and put a Sabellco tailgate lock on. Both were simple installs.

When you search car-part.com for your area there are several new take offs, but they want $850 for them. That's nuts. In my area they want $650 for them and I thought that was ridiculous.

Hey op check businesses that sell truck caps. White work trucks go in there a lot to get the contractor caps and they leave the tailgates. A lot of those on craigslist and offer up are those take offs. The only thing I wouldn’t do is buy one from some random dude cause yea that’s most likely stolen.

I got one of the Sabellco locks, just got it yesterday in fact.

Kinda a pain in the cock to put on, mostly trying to get the o-rings on while holding the unhinged tailgate. Short of cutting or prying it, or carrying exactly the tools needed to remove it, it seems pretty damn secure.

My condolences for your tailgate. I had to buy one myself, even if it was cuz I bought my truck with a walk-in cap.

Single stage paint does not have "clearcoat already mixed in the paint." It's simply white paint in the OP's case. Basecoat / Clearcoat is a whole different system.
