D-rings instead of washer...truck bed?

    Hey folks,

Needing a few extras tie-down spots. Would prefer not to drill if possible. Looks like I could replace the washers in truck bed with needed d-rings, but a buddy cautioned me on messing with truck bed.

Has anyone else replaced washers with drings? Any issues/concerns with doing so?

    Thanks!

I really wish I could find some in stainless steel. My D rings are constantly rusting. If anyone has found one that would fit, I'd like to know where it was found. My past searches haven't turned up much.

I know you said you'd prefer not to drill, but these were totally worth drilling through the bed for!

Looks pretty good up there actually. Did you use a backing plate there? Any metal to drill through or just plastic?

yes goes directly into the frame. You don’t want to drill in the plastic bed. It’s very weak and easily crack.

You need 6 OEM bed bolts and the correct size Torx bit for a 1/2" breaker bar and good luck as if an 07 those are rusted into the frame mounts.
Many posts on ways to remove so read those. Beer and a few choice words are required.

Before you try and turn the bed bolts for removal, get under the bed and spray the tips of the bolts with PB Blaster or similar, do this for a day or so prior to bolt removal.

I purchased 4 of the below plates. Two for the D-rings to be welded on (random set of 8 purchased on Amazon) and two for backing plates. I placed them relatively close to the corners of the bed for added strength. And of course grade 8 hardware.

My Camper hasn't fallen out yet! I figure if it can handle this, you wouldn't have any issue at all, lol.

I used my 1/2" impact gun. made it much easier. Did struggle alittle... would hate to do by hand.

I've tried there and Google searching it out elsewhere. What I've been able to find is small SS D ring tie downs (similar to this mod and existing), where the bed bolt would be too large for the given hole or even if I drilled it out.

On the plus side, replacing my reg. steel D rings allows me to reapply the the anti-seize to the bed bed bolts. I hear some guys have a tough time getting them out.
