I just put my engine back together after getting my cylinder heads rebuilt, and finally figured out my bonehead mistake that led to a no fuel condition. After fixing that and starting it up again, it's running rough, and I'm getting the general misfire code (P0300), plus the specific misfire codes (P0302/P0304/P0306) for all three cylinders on the driver's side valve head. And there are louder cam-like noises coming from that side as well.

The only things that I can think of that would be causing this are the cam sprockets being off a tooth, or maybe the timing belt. But those are simple, easy things that I know I was very careful with when I put the engine back together. What else might be causing it?

Are you sure the injectors are plugged in and spark plugs haven't been closed somehow? Also plug wires from mother coils plugged in well?

This sounds like an overlook somehow from assembly. Oh and firing order correct to wires?

I was pretty careful, but I'll double check.

Yes, that is my assumption. I'm just hoping it wasn't anything with the camshafts or timing belt. It would be hard to mess those up, though.

I'll triple check that one. But I can't imagine that would result in all three cylinders on the driver's side throwing codes.

If they all 3 go to the wrong cylinder. I would think at least 1 wouldn't fit in the wrong position though.
It's just stuff to look at and get you double checking EVERY connection.

Were the plugs in the head while it was installed?

Maybe sat on something that closed the gaps?

EDIT: From personnel experience, are there rags in the cylinders?

Just solved this issue on my 2001 Tacoma 3.4. My exhaust camshaft timing was off 180 degrees after I replaced head gasket. Both the intake and exhaust camshafts have a single dot alignment mark and a double dot alignment mark. I did not know this… So I aligned intake shaft single dot with exhaust double dot on driver side leading to misfires on 2, 4, 6. Why there are two alignment marks I do not know yet I still need to do some reading. Hopefully this saves someone a headache.
