    Hello All!
Hoping someone has a light to shed...
2002 Tacoma 4 cylinder 2.7 4wd has developed a rough idle low power issue.
    Error code reads P0304.
    (Misfire on 4th cylinder)
My question is, When I look at engine from front of vehicle the cylinders are in line like this.

    4
    3
    2
    1
    (front of vehicle)

Is the error code related to cylinder location OR firing order?
After some research I think the firing order is 1-3-4-2 and have read that it relates to firing order not cylinder location.

If that is the case then am I correct that a P0304 (4th cylinder misfire) means that the 4th cylinder misfire is actually the 2nd cylinder in from the front of engine and NOT the 4th one back?

Anyone who knows for sure and would share some insight would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

    #4 cylinder is #4
Firing order does not change cylinder location.

Code 0304 points to cylinder #4, the one nearest the firewall. ;)

    Thank you gents.
I had assumed the OBDII P0304 code referred to the ACTUAL 4th Cylinder, but I read somewhere it referred to the 4th cylinder in firing sequence. Thanks for clearing the matter up. Time to move forward. Waiting for my new plugs to arrive and start digging in to figure out the issue. Hopefully its plug related! fingers crossed.

If I suspected that a problem might be caused by a spark plug, I would just swap the plug in the suspected cylinder with the one in another cylinder without cleaning the tip. If the code changes, then I would replace all the plugs.

Nobody mentioned a possible problem with the injectors. It could be that too, although I would suspect to see a P0301 code along with the P0304 code.

I had to buy a new spark plug socket with extension since mine went "missing". Decided to buy plugs while I was at it. They should arrive tomorrow.
I swapped #1 and #4 Coil to see if code jumped to #1 Already. It did not jump. So next was to swap out #4 Plug and go from there. The only code I have so far is P0304. Checked coil by swapping, will check plug tomorrow. fingers crossed thats the issue. If not, I guess poking at coil/plug wires and then check injector.

also added some seafoam to gas and ran a lil bit in hopes if injector was dirty it may help clean em a bit. Suppose it can't hurt even if it does nothing to help. ;)

Also pulled the MAF sensor and sprayed with electrical cleaner for the hell of it, thinking I may pull and clean the throttle body as well. I bought the truck almost 2 years ago. She's been doing great up till now. just over 160,000 miles on her. She appears well taken care of but who knows how well or deep the maintenance has been really.
