    Hi Guys,

After lifting my truck I neglected to do the CV Boot mod soon enough and both boots tore. I had them replaced and did the mod on both sides. The right side was giving me problems and I couldn’t slide it without popping it off. I eventually got it to stay and slightly slid the boot and clamped but after a week it retore. Left side the mod was done and all seemed fine. I had a new boot placed on the right side and this time it fit better and it I was able to do the mod no problems. Fast forward 2 months and lots of off-roading no problems. Then after driving 800 miles on a trip and some more off-roading the left side tore this time. Now I have to drive 800 miles home with a torn left boot. Any ideas why they’re still tearing, even with the boot mod? Do I need to slide them more? Is there any other solution? Special boots made for the extreme angles? Should I not Offroad any more (joke)? I’m tired of spending 300-400$ every few weeks so any advice or input would be appreciated.

    thanks!

Yes, how much lift? What do your cv angles look like?

If you’re tearing boots that often there is something wrong with your setup. Also, Napa cv’s are like $80, no reason to spend $300-$400

Looks like 4+ inches of lift. If that's true he's going to blow through boots no matter what he does. Either lower the truck down a bit or go with a drop bracket set up(whitch sucks).

3.5” front lift. Here’s a photo of the left side before it tore. And the 300-400$ is with the cost of labor since it takes roughly 4hr to replace at the mechanics. The photo in the avatar was with stock tires.

3.5 inches is really pushing it when it comes to trying to keep the axle boots from ripping. I would lower the front a bit.

I was hoping to leave it until I can throw a front bumper and winch and what do it settles as a good height, but if that’s the only option it beats replacing boots every other month. How do people with 6” of lift and more do it though?

BDS lift. Keeps the CV axle near stock angle, I'm pretty sure.

They do a drop bracket in the front. They cut out the front subframe and replace it with an aftermarket one that drops everything lower. They work but you are stuck with the lift and can't go back to stock.

As mentioned above, should lower that down about 1.5." You really only want about 2" of lift otherwise you have no down travel.

Aside from that, your boot looks stretched, the fins are convexed outward.

    Here are mine to compare.

This hurts to look at. That angle is way too steep, especially when you're offroading. If this is flat pavement I can't imagine what that angle looks like under actual downwards articulation. Like others said either lower it (ideal), get a drop bracket (not ideal), or go full mid travel/long travel. If you keep it your going to need new cv axels just about every time you fill your gas tank.

Who did the lift? Maybe they'll warranty the work for leading you astray assuming they're the ones who suggested it. Although I guess ultimately you should have done your own research to verify what they said. And if you did it yourself...well time to start shopping

You're getting taken for a ride. No way should it take that long.

I think Toyota quoted me twice that, 700$ per side to replace.

I think he was poking at the mechanic taking 4 hours, only takes about 1-1.5hours

So is there no point in the boot mod? And all the people on here claiming 3” lift with boot mod and no problems are just mall crawlers? Seems like the only course of action is to drop the lift in the front and maybe get the high angle cv boots just to help.
