So I need to get new axles....apparently Toyota is super proud of their axles. Over 700 for a set?? I've heard people having good luck with the brand new NAPA ones. They are only $186 for the set.

OEM ones are only warrantied for one year. NAPA LIFETIME warranty. I'm leaning to NAPA.

    Thoughts??

Are both shot? I think I might know someone who is local to you that is looking to sell an OEM one for a good price.

I would go with Napa, warranty for life no matter how many times you break them, for the price you can even buy a couple spares for out on the trail.

All I will say is there is a reason the napa’s have a life time warranty. Same goes with autozone and oreilys. There is a reason it is a life time warranty, so if you don’t mind swapping out axles more often to save some $$ that is up to you. If you are paying someone to swap them this can make it cost more in the long run.
Your truck is a 2006 so probably bought in 2005, if this is your first axle change then that is around a 13 year old axle. Not too shabby

I’ve personally never had to run a non oem axle on my truck yet, I am just weighing my opinion on the cheap auto store axles vs oem. Would they be great for a trail spare? I think so. Unless you have some really high lift that will wear out your axles faster I think it’s worth it for the oems as they will most likely last longer than the napa/azone/oreily ones.
If you know someone who works at a dealer and they order the axles for you with their employee discount I think you would save around $100. I don’t know the exact markup, but I am willing to bet it would be atleast $100 saved through employee pricing.

I try to help when I can. My first car was a nissan maxima in highschool. Oem axles made it to around 200k. I replaced both with autozone lifetime warranty axles. A year later and one of them was already blown, and the next was on its way. Ended up swapping them out and selling the car at that point. I still have nightmares on swapping those CV’s out.

I had the same thing with my 1st gen...the axles would last just about a year and then the boot would fail, or some part would corrode, etc. I would just shoot for a used OEM one...hell both my LT axles were at $100 shipped each from a junkyard out in Cali. Sure they wont have the best results compared to new, but they have held up fine so far.

That is a steal for Lt axles, and I’m willing to bet they would still last longer than if you got autostore axles!

Oh they had to be built with the LT axles afterwards, but for OEM it still is a solid deal!

No warranty on their “high angle” boot. Both of my cvj axles tore up under a year.

Yes. I had to call them because they don’t email. The lady told me there is no warranty on their high angle boots because it’s a performance part and you’re going to take it off-road.

Here's a breakdown on pricing from CVJ. This was from Jan 2nd, so fairly recent.
