I have a 2012 tacoma 4wd base model. Regular cab 2.7l. Went to Toyota to get the needle bearings and they say their is a type A and a Type B. Does anyone know how to tell which one mine has? Like what do I need to look at to know. Toyota couldn't tell me

Any reason why you want to go back with a needle bearing?
I’d go with the aftermarket bushing myself.
Pretty sure the same bushing works in all the 2nd & 3rd Gen trucks.

@whatstcp is the 2.7 diff any different than the 4.0 , other than being 4.10 ratio?

I just prefer the bearing over the bushing. I don't plan on a installing a lift or anything.

My axle code is A02A. My local toyota dealership looks at me like I'm stupid when I ask how do I know which I have

Maybe it’s like the Luk or Aisin clutch?
They used both in the 2nd Gens.
Maybe you don’t know, until you get the old one out?
Which obviously makes for preordering parts “hard”.

Dealership parts departments make things complicated.
I work for a local 18 wheeler Dealership and our parts department makes things more complicated then they need to be. Lol

The driver side is the problem side. The passenger side has “real” bearings. If memory serves me you can get both seals from ECGS.

There have been a lot of guys running the bushing for years and many thousands of miles.
You can get both seals for ECGS I think they are around $20 each.
They also make a bearing removal tool.
If you look over in the BST section, a lot of the time there is one floating around for you to borrow.
Once you are done with it, send it to the next guy.

I think there was a guy that did it that way.
You need to be really really careful not to damage the side where the bearing sits.
I believe the tool is a blind hole bearing puller.
