CV Axle Boot Repair

Ive got a cv axle boot that needs repair, i bought the truck used with this issue. Would this kit be what i need to get going?

Hey Guys, What boot repair kit did you use, and how did it go? I have a 2.5" lift and run 1" wheel spaces. I also swapped out my OEM axles with aftermarket axles a few years ago, but am looking for a good quality cv boot swap. Not the cheaper rubber boots I see for sale all over. I'm not sure if OEM boots will fit on my after market axles. Also, I am figuring a slightly high angle or longer boot would be better due to the lift, ect...

I am, but unfortunately the Rep at CVJ told me specifically that his boots will NOT fit my aftermarket axles. I'm willing to get them, and try and force them to fit, if that's possible. I'm just not sure if that idea is just totally impossible, and I'd be wasting more time and money.

 

I wouldn’t get them then. Whrrwver you bought your aftermarket axles from may sell the boots or an upgraded boot for them. I bought the Toyota kit but it’s tor the oem axle

 

Cool, I'm still looking for options. I may end up just buying a used pair of OEM axles off of Ebay and re-boot them with new Boots.

 

Hey Guys, just one more quick question. Assuming I find my OEM axles, and reboot them, do I need the "High Angle" type or will regular OEM Toyota CV Boots do the job?
I run a 2.5" lift in the front with 33's and 1" Spacers.

 

Do they make an in between?

 

I’m leaning high angle but not sure tbh if that would cause issues with boot rubbing itself or not

 

Right - Thats what I'm afraid of. One rep told me 2.5" lifts should not need the high angle boots, but I'm wondering if the high angle is a safer bet, or will it possibly cause more issues with rubbing.
I'm going to call the rep at CVJ and ask him also. I'm trying to do this the least amount of times. I've changed out my CV's twice already.

 

I’m thinking with OEM you should be fine with 2.5” lift but if boots wouldn’t rub why wouldn’t you do high angle just to be safe. I’d check with cvj professionals rather then listen for to me tbh lol

 

Yup - I hear ya. Thanks for the advice. Now for the fun part - Tracking down some used OEM axles. Not sure if I asked this already, but Are 2nd Gen axles compatible, such as a 2009 fit ok with my 2012. Do the various models differ between 2WD, 4x4, double cab versus 2 door, ect...
I would guess they all use the same axles, but again, I will start calling these guys to check before I purchase.
