Cut off exhaust tip??

Hey everyone. This is my first post (in any forum, ever). Gotta simple question for ya. I have an 18 sr5. Mostly stock other than the lift wheels and tires, tint, nerf bars etc I had done at the dealer when I bought it new in May of 18 with 11 miles on it.
I bought a cheap black exhaust tip from Amazon. Matte black to match my black truck. I made the mistake of taking the word of a review that said it would fit right in without cutting. And of course it doesn't. It's supposed to fit up to 2 1/2". My stock exhaust pipe tip tapers out for the last few inches. If I cut off those last few inches, this new tip should fit. Does anyone advise against doing so for any reason? And what should I use to cut it... Cuz I only have a hack saw and I'm guessing my cut won't be straight using that. Would it matter? Thanks.

 

You'd have to cut off the last couple inches of the factory exhaust, otherwise you'd see it sticking out inside the new tip. Once you do that, the new tip might fit. I don't know the exact dimension of the factory pipe as I have an aftermarket exhaust. If the tip is still too big, you might get a better idea of what size you need and exchange that one.

As for cutting it...hacksaw, sawzall, torch...whatever you have. Cut doesn't have to be perfectly straight. It will get covered up.

 

Sawzall ... harbor freight sells them for like 20$ and you will find out it will be the best 20$ you ever spent on a tool

Save yourself the time and aggravation go to a muffler shop have them expand it and burn it on.

 

I did the same thing. Bought an exhaust tip thinking it would fit but the last 2-3 inches flanges out so didn't fit. Ended up buying the oem black chrome tip, much nicer.
