I'm not gonna watch this video again--1. its about heeps 2. its anti-climatic--but I believe that they cover what they did for the engine mount and the transmission adapter for this exact engine, in a heep.

    Guerrilla:

Sorry man, it didn't come up when I searched cummins R2.8. But I think this thread has a different objective/tone.

    1. Emissions compliance will be an issue.
    2. The Tacoma is a late model car with a new updated V6 that makes MUCH more HP and the same TQ as the R2.8. Yes it will be nice for the low end torque if all you do is rock crawl, towing would be slightly better, but 161 HP would be a dog for daily driving. I personally have no issue sending my V6 above 4k rpms when towing up mountain passes, it does fine and even better with a supercharger.
    3. As a desirable late model car, Tacomas are expensive, adding the cost of swap isn't worth it.
    4. Not much reason to pull out a very reliable engine to put in a lower HP motor at significant cost.
    5. If you're doing this for off roading, Tacoma isn't the best platform. Any year Landcruiser or Jeep is a better option with options for solid front axles and more lockers available with shorter wheelbases.
    6. Look on Ebay and craigslist, there are lots of swapped and imported diesels to choose from. Check one out first and see if you do actually like it before putting 15k at least into a swap.
    7. People buy Tacomas for reliability, swaps are not reliable nor easy to find parts or to work on. I've had two swapped cars before and they have been a pain. If you want something you can drive into the middle of nowhere and come back without issue, you want a stock vehicle.
    8. Besides the IFS, Tacoma is also not a fully boxed frame, which you can get on Landcruisers.

Thus, not the best platform for many reasons. I suggest you sell your Tacoma and buy what you want, especially considering you aren't much good at researching topics for yourself thus I doubt you're mechanically inclined. I've done many a transmission swap, rebuilt cars, and one engine swap with wiring. I would not do this swap even though I have the time and money and abilities and would really like a diesel as well.

    1. Is probably the most serious issue to consider, considering the year of the car, but currently were I live not so much.
    2. I've got 190k+, the supercharger is an obvious upgrade, but in the end may cost just as much (possibly more), that is what I am trying to trouble shoot with others, on a new item that there is zero to research on a tacoma so far.
    3. Not as expensive as what you suggest later. Plus its what I have, and at a 190k+ miles I ain't getting much for it and would loose all my money in custom parts and accessories, that I should probably list eventually.
    4. The v6 4.0 is very reliable, but so is cummins, if not more. This swap POTENTIALLY--and I stress potentially, hence trying to trouble shoot it with other people--would cost less than putting a supercharger on an engine with 190k+ miles, after the rebuild. Which to be honest, I'm well aware that the supercharger is currently my best option. But I'm trying to investigate a new option, while I save up for either (about 1 year from date).
    5. I disagree, I appreciate the tacomas balance of comfort, smaller size and capability, for my price range, for a small family outdoors travel/hunting vehicle; I feel that the land cruiser is way too big for my taste, except for the ones that sell for about $30k+, which I don't have.
    6. Yeah Iv'e seen those, and yeah I've thought about a Prado diesel--they're only like $13k, a great deal, but I bet parts would be super difficult do find--but again I prefer the tacoma. And true you can finally import the early 90s pickups, in quad cab diesel into the US, but thats even more expensive to do and then have a very used car, with very expensive parts. But then again, other than the diesel aspect, I know that truck like the back of my hand, I put 300k miles on a 91' SR5 5-speed and did everything on that truck myself. But as you pointed out I have no mechanical inclination and I'm terrible at research. And yeah back in california I had a buddy with a diesel in a Cherokee sport, drove great... I guess I could cut the trunk out into a truck bed and load elk in that; but I don't do body work, so I'm sure it would end up a piece of garbage.
    7. Yes, it is a risk, but cummins are reliable as well, and I feel this idea is worth looking into, or at least asking around. Putting arrogance aside, I'm genuinely curious, are any of them diesel swaps in toyota trucks, because if so I'd love to hear more?
    8. The landcruisers I CAN afford don't interest me, just too big and the mpg is terrible; diesel in a tacoma would improve the already decent mpg.

I never commented on your ability to work on car. I don't talk trash about people I don't know, I just sometimes make smartass remarks to statements that are both rude and dumb. Previously I just didn't feel like taking the time of pointing out the obvious advantages of diesel, as many people have put them in tacomas and love them. Now that cummins has a new repower line there is a possibility of something good. Unlike you, time and money are an issue for me, but I do have some of both.

I look at this way: every one that hunts water foul says that Coot taste like sh*t and there are million jokes about this. Well one day on a bad duck hunt I went out and shot me some Coot and I cleaned it well and pan seared the breast to a perfect rare with only a little salt pepper. What I found out later through discussion, was that not one person had ever eaten coot, they were all we just negative for no reason at all. Coot actually taste just like beef, they eat it in NOLA all the time and common in french cooking as well. That's why I research things and ask around for particular experience, because I do sh*t and I enjoy doing sh*t.

I think the reason it isn’t selling is it’s a Chevy so......
I want a midsize diesel double cab (stick but I know that won’t happen) and would pay for it if it were available from anyone but GM.
If toyota doesn’t step up soon and the new midsize ranger has a diesel then I may jump ship. As far as under powered, well all toyota’s are if not supercharged so... My 2015 taco has over 69000 miles so far so saving mile per gallon and have torque for days would be sweet!

Getting a clutch/bellhousing/flywheel or torqueconverter match sounds like the ultimate nightmare.

The IRS and its chicken tax, the EPA, the CARB and the american automakers (that import most of parts from Mexico, Canada, Brazil, India, mighty China, and others) will tell you that, a small reliable pickup truck (as toyota used to be build), is not what the market "wants". Specially, if you pair it up with a small reliable long lasting diesel engine, like the cummins or the D4d 2.5 or 3.0...that match the towing capacity of a svt Raptor...ahhh that is what the market "wants"!
They will talk little and loud about pollution!....by saying that diesel damages irreversibly our planet, without comparing to a v8 6.2l, or batteries of an $90000 electrical car, or the amount of extra pollution that gas refineries adds...they don't want us to have fun rock crawling or 4wheeling or rving. They want us to go work on our teslas carring sheetrock on its roof racks, and tools on the backseats
    This is my humble opinion
When in the looks of perfection
