Have anyone engine swapped cummin r2.8 into either Tacoma or 4Runner? If so how good is it with either stock tire size or 33? I was thinking about v8, put I’m not looking for speed. Just good enough at 65.

I just need some similar size but a lot of torque of the diesel provide.yet still good for daily driving.

Just buy a GMC Canyon or Chevy Colorado with the Duramax diesel. Same size, diesel power. You're looking at months of research, finding an engine and transmission, finding all the necessary parts, fabrication of motor mounts and frame modification, and problems to fix after you make it fit. Not to mention if you buy a Colorado or Canyon you won't waste nearly as much time or money in the end. Engine swaps are primarily for those that don't use their trucks as daily drivers and have nearly bottomless wallets.

It really makes zero sense to me to spend that much money on an engine just to put it into a compact 1st Gen. If you want power, to buy a full size RAM or Silverado for example. @Spoonman is right, there’s so much more to it than that.

I disagree with the others, I'm guessing this is a bolt in swap. biggest pain in the butt will be getting all the gas out of the tank.

This sounds like a very interesting swap have you checked Cummins for all the interesting information they have??

Gear ratio calculator makes answering your question simple

The fact you get so many goodies with the crate engine is so very nice .

Have the needed skills to do all the work your self?? Paying labor would be very expensive .

Without Labor I think $12,000.00 might be a ball park figure Labor could easily double that figure.

Major problems would be wiring merging and the physical fabrication to install the engine and exhaust.

If I was 20 years younger this would give me ideas .

I did a Dodge 318 V8 swap, along with both 3/4 ton axles out of the same Dodge into a 1988 Toyota pickup about 15 years ago. NEVER AGAIN.

Just my 2 cents worth... I spoke with a Tech at the Cummins repower site and what he said was that trans/rear end gearing is THE most important aspect of this swap into any vehicle. While the motor is a bitchin' power plant it likes to run within a certain rpm range and most transmissions/3rd members that are out there just arnt geared for diesel use... they will work and are usually a compromise.

I'm more interested in that color than the engine swap

Instead of doing diesel swap with all problems related why not go hybryd. Put 100hp diesel generator on the bed and replace all engine bay guts with big ass electric motor. No gearbox, no ECU do deal with. There will be unlimited torque and 100hp from 0 rpm to the red line. They make train engines this way, so it can be done with 1st gen Tacoma
