Hello, the cruise control on my 09 Tacoma suddenly stop working. There's no light coming on and I have checked all fuses. I know that it is rare for the switch on toyata to default. Does anybody have any suggestions to what it could be.

There's a recall or TSB on the spiral cable. Its in th steering colum area. Something along the lines of electrical wires getting cut.

The spiral cable is a loaded coil of wires that allow the steering wheel to go around and still maintain electrical contact between the steering wheel controls and the devices they are connected to such as the horn, cruise control, stereo controls and air bag ... The systems that are effected depends on which wires are broken, in your case it seems to be the cruise control.

When the spiral cable is replaced all the wires are replaced, not just the one for the effected system.

Is your truck Manual or auto?

Have you fixed your issue? I have the same issue and mine is manual. I will be doing some tests to trouble shoot it soon.

Heard the clutch pedal doesn't return to the top position all the time.

I changed my spiral cable (AKA clock spring) myself. Just took a few minutes. There are good instructions you can find on this site with a search.

I found one on eBay for $60. It was identical to the one that I removed. That was 3 years ago. No issues since.

My truck is a manual. I took it to toyota, They told Me it is the cc swich itself and wanted to charge me $240 for a new one. When I got it home I took the one screw out of the back of the switch messed around a bit and found it was just the momentary switch that turns the cc on and off . So now I just have the two wires hanging out the back off the switch. It works now, just touch the two wires together for a second it comes on. Good enuff for me for now

All you have to do is disconnect the battery and wait a half hour to discharge the air bag circuit. Then replace the spiral cable in the steering wheel.

Reminds me of the 1957 Chevy I had as a kid (16). It had two toggle switches for the ignition / starter. Turn 1 on then use 2 for the starter, when it cranks turn off the starter switch.

Did anyone have luck getting Toyota to honor the TSB on this issue?

about 8 years ago I got an airbag code for the spiral switch. I bought 1 from the dealer & replaced it my self in less then a half hour. a couple of years later they came out with the recall & mailed in my receipt & a few weeks later I got a reimbursement check.
