Last summer, I was dreaming of the cold and the winter and I decided to create a tiny home camper for my '95 Tacoma. I decided on a plan that would reduce weight as much as possible while creating a large space to camp/hang out in. Probably need to sell it now considering gas prices. I imagine the structure weighs approximately 600lbs. With the 'add-a-leaf' adding 200lbs of support for the bed, it doesn't weight the back down too much. It's been really fun for hanging out in the snow. Let me know what you think or if you'd like to know more about the construction process.

Reminds me of the honeymoon camper from the 1977 movie Grand Theft Auto, except yours is cooler and a lot more reliable!

Let's just say that they couldn't wait until they got to their hotel room and the truck got stolen by a main character while they were in the back making a baby... :D

I've went down from around 17.5mpg to around 15.5mpg. That's a combined number but is mostly short highway drives without traffic. I get more on long road trips and down to just under 14 if I include some soft 4wd to get to camp spots.

I've got a bolt going through one of the main structural boards going length wise along the truck. That bolt is then attached to the sliders on the truck.

Wow! That’s amazing, I have dreamed of doing something like this myself, I would never want to leave the mountains having a set up like that, I’d stay in the woods and only leave to stock up on essentials :D

I don't really know what the gross weight is, but the vehicle is essentially stock with sliders and this thing that likely weighs 600lbs.

The structure itself comes in at about 600lbs. If I'm not worried about big coolers, stoves, etc, then it's actually not that bad since all I bring is my light weight sleeping bag.

Were you able to put any insulation in it?

I could put insulation in it and there is room between the 2x3 studs to make that happen. I decided against it since it is already warmer than a tent and the insulation plus the added wall would add too much weight too it. Truthfully, the 3.4 liter doesn't want much more weight. Right now, the vehicle accelerates fine but that would change if I started added insulation, tables, kitchens, etc.

Cool I’m actually building a slide in camper for my 95.5 taco 4x4 but its an auto (prefer). I’m going to insulate with 1/2” and is made out of 1x2’s and 1/4” plywood. I wanted a slide in that was flush to the bed lines. Going to fiberglass it. 6 feet tall for I can stand in it.
