Hello fellow tacoma folks, Does anybody know whey the Tacoma 2nd gen. engine has two breather vent hoses coming from the crankcase back to the throttle intake? One small hose attaches to the PCV valve and the other longer on the passanger side seems to be a strait hose. WHAT GIVES??? In this picture 12261 has the pcv valve and 12262 is the regular hose.

Question #2 Is an oil catch can really helpful or just a waste of time and money????

The large hose is a crankcase vent not to be confused with the pcv valve which is on the other valve cover.
The other smaller tube is the atmospheric pressure regulated fuel pressure regulator. Yes I know a mouth full, it don't vent anything it controls a valve by atmospheric pressure.

    thanks for the reply,
I know this is an old posting but I never saw this reply until now. So the longer hose which is 12262 in the picture does not vent anything and it's an
atmospheric pressure regulated fuel pressure regulator?

hold on a second, 12262 is the crank case breather hose which is connected to the intake right before the throttle body. its metered air meaning it goes through the Mass air flow meter.
12261 is the hose connected to the pcv valve 12204 the other end connects to the intake manifold which is after the throttle body.
the intake manifold creates vacuum and pulls through the pcv valve it pulls air through the engine by getting air from the crank case
breather 12262. this just simply explanation for the pcv system.
about the FPR hose its not pictured on that diagram. its hooked to the FPR and to the air filter box near the fire wall its a hose that's only like an 1/8 size.

Will it hurt any thing if you put a lil filter on the hose?

what hose are you talking about? I never did get an answer about an oil catch can being useful or not. The catch can will go between the pcv valve and the return hose back to the intake.
