Most of you know I'm selling
My truck. Got this e mail last night

Thanks for getting back to me regarding my text...I hope it is in good
condition? and there wont be any cause of disappointment if i purchase
it from you? I want to buy it for my dad and I am ready to pay the
asking price. I'm a Marine Engineer and am currently on sea right now
which is strictly no calls. My Mode of payment is PayPal because i
don't have access to my bank account online, but i have it attached to
my PayPal account. Since I'm requesting this transaction to be done
via PayPal, I will be responsible for all the PayPal fees/charges on
this transaction, if you don't have an account with PayPal, it's
pretty easy, safe and secure to open one. Just log on to
www.paypal.com I hope we can make this transaction as fast as
possible. Less I forgot, I have a Mover that will come for the pick up
once payment is cleared in your PayPal account and they will be
handling the everything for me, as I look forward to hearing from you
with your PayPal information as requested below.

    Your PayPal e-Mail Address :
    Full name:
    Firm Price:
    Address for pick up:

    Many Thanks

I'm calling bs. Sorry only cash in hand! Or bank check. Anyone else have this happen to them?

Yes, I have had this happen multiple times, when selling something we had. These are opportunists who intend to scam the seller. Other times they will use a check, and after leaving with your stuff cancel it with their bank.

Also, be aware of alleged brokers who want you to give them money up-front to assist in the sale of your stuff on consignment.

Then there are folks (craigslist) who want to meet and do a transaction face-to-face. When you get there, you are robbed.

I think tomorrow is a good day for a meeting. I can pay you cash or certified bank check if you want. I do hope you have all the things ready because i don't want to make the trip twice. I will need a vehicle history report for my lender with the owner signature on each page so do not send me the vin no because you will need to get that history report
You can get the history report from any website you want or you can get one from: http://History.CarPAuto.ca/ for 20 bucks.

I am willing to refund you for that report if it is too much to ask from you or if you want i can send someone from my family to a post office to transfer you the twenty bucks so you will have the funds to pay for that history report.

I am very serious about seeing the car so once you have an updated vehicle history please tell me or reply with the pdf and I will call you or give you my number to arrange a meeting

I hope you are serious too, thank you

I don't talk to anyone on CL via email or text. If you want what I have, call me and be local. No calls and not local I don't bother with it, 9/10 it's a scam, and 1/10 they want a price break on the $100 item because they have to make an hour long drive to get it and drive an hour back home.

    Too few to list.
Usually the first sign of scam is not being local. When accepting cash for a sale, be careful of counterfeit. When buying, be careful of stolen items. Nowadays, the only real safe transaction is to inside a bank for cash or cashiers check.

I wanna know how they would have scammed me. Saying the payment went threw than get the truck than when I go to get the money out of paypal it's not there? Or something along those lines.

Mostly likely with the "paypal" link they send you is not actual paypal.

Weird little spin I got sucked into 5 yrs ago, and I don't recall ever giving my address to them, but a computer generated check showed up delivered by FEDEX. I had never agreed to a sale...it was very confusing. When the check showed up I was even more confused. My wife had it checked out by a friend in the banking industry and it turned out it was written against a closed account. She turned the whole mess over to local law enforcement, but my understanding is these scam artists are rarely caught. Had we tried to deposit the check, somehow they would have been able to make money off the deal. It's all about manipulating the electronic accounts and so forth to the best of my knowledge.

I just steer clear of anyone who isn't local now.

So there's my little embarrassing story.

I'd buy that for a dollar!!!!

I always meet in public. One time I didn't was for a metal brake, which weighed about 200 pounds and I couldn't lift it into the truck myself

My uncle had something similar to this happen to him a year ago except it was a guy from Saudi Arabia that was emailing him. He was selling his Land Cruiser (early 2000's IIRC). They said they would be willing to have someone meet him to get the car and that they would wire him the money. He did email back saying "cash only" and they emailed saying they could have the guy bring it when he picked it up...Long story short, They met, my uncle got cash, and asked where the cruiser was going. The guy said he was driving it to the nearest port and loading it onto a shipping container!
