Really annoyed, only had it a few months and caught a pebble on the highway on Monday. It was just tiny and I thought they would be able to just fill it in but I woke up this morning and it’s like a 20 plus inch crack now. My question is, how is Safelite with the replacement of these? Will it look the same as the factory windshield? I’m assuming I’ll have to get the tint strip redone. on a side note I just put an Aeroskin II on the hood 2 days prior. The pebble came from the side so I don’t think it’s relevant, just annoying I bought it to help deflect debris and a couple days later have a cracked windshield.

Dealer cost to replace it will be about $1400 with recalibration of Safety Sense crap and OEM WS. Not sure what your insurance deductible is for comprehensive, but if its high, lower it and wait while to claim it and use your insurance. I went safelight and was about $780 I think with 1 year calibration guarantee. Install went well and am happy with the windshield, but its not as good as the OEM. It is kind of blurry-ish where it curves, but its not really an issue. Looks exactly the same as OEM other than the slight curve blur. Its perfectly clear don't get me wrong and not noticeable while driving, but not the quality of the OEM. SL does offer OEM I think for bout $200 more. Good luck.

Wouldn't recommend insurance fraud to save a little money... You don't need to have the calibration redone. Just don't unplug the sensor. Had mine replaced over the summer for $400 with no recalibration done and it's fine.

    That sucks!

I had a close call...this was about 6 inches from hitting the top of the windshield a couple of weeks ago:

I got touch-up paint from the dealership and it isn't too noticeable.

I would want an OEM replacement. I done a safelight repair...safelight replace on my wife's 2003 Elantra (it was traded in) but the insulation was never the same.

This reminds me, I need to see what my deductible is for windshield replacement.

EDIT: Comprehension for me is $500.

I called my insurance company and told them the situation, paid full price out of pocket for the broken one and changed my high deductible after to a low rate so when it happens again...and it will, it will be affordable. Sure, it raised my monthly insurance a little bit, but not more the the windshield cost over a year. I'm not sure about the recalibration part. Maybe at a small windshield shop you can get it done without the calibration.

I’m in Florida so we get free glass replacement through insurance (one per year I believe). They said I could get it done at a Toyota dealer and they’d reimburse up to $780.

I had to replace the windshield on my wife's Prius last year. In Florida also so no deductible on glass, but Progressive balked at the OEM replacement until the shop I was using told their claims rep that Toyota wouldn't recalibrate the sensors on non-OEM glass. That did the trick and got the entire job paid for. Only pain was if I didn't use Safelite I had to front the money and get reimbursed, but I got 100% of the cost back in about a week after turning in the receipts.

I had a similar issues, needed a new windshield at 1,500 miles. Shop around, I got mine replaced by a reputable company for $350. Likes others said, no need to take it to the dealer and recalibration is almost never needed.

I just did mine and didn't cost me out of pocket with insurance. Safelite did it.. the quote from them was $900, $500 for the windshield and $400 for recalibration.. it's quite a ripoff.

Average is $1,400 CAD if calibration is required up here in Canada. I bought glass coverage through the dealership for $1,000 which requires 4 windshields in 4 years including calibration. Already used it once so was well worth it.

Free as in built into their premiums. Much like the free 2 years of service Toyota does.

Ok “free” as in no deductible. I got my dealer to get approval for OEM from my insurance. Plus it has the go pro mount which I didn’t have before so that’s good I guess.
