Just smacked taillights with some Norwegian tourists in Wyoming and I need a new taillight cover. I've ordered the correct part but am unsure whether I should attempt to replace it myself. I'm out of town for two more weeks and when I drive back across the country I want my taillights protected from the elements. Has anyone done this themselves? I'm in jackson so any body shop is likely to pull my pants down over the price.

Shouldn't be too tough. When I installed the brackets for my bed extender I had to pull out the tail lights and at first it was a bit un-nerving pulling them out, but you really have to pull hard and they'll pop out. Aside from that part, it should be a piece of cake.

Two of the 3 bolts (10mm) and then it loosens.
Now becomes the 'scary' part...you need to pull and hard/firm as if your going to break it.

They are attached with some barbed posts that go into a rubber grommet it seems and you need to pull the enclosure away from it.
I wiggled and pulled at the same time, increasing pull power a little at time until they came free.

Seriously, it feels like your gonna break the tail light assembly removing it :)

Is it a big deal if I break it while removing it if I'm replacing it, or are you talking about breaking the mounts?

You won't break it, the push tab on the lower part only feels like you're going to break it.

It's not a cover, it's a whole tail lamp assembly, but yes changing them is simple. 2 bolts hold it in, then pull it out towards you.

A small tree attacked my rear passenger side tail light and broke it a few months ago. It took me about 5 minutes and a Phillips Head screw driver...no biggie. I believe it was either 2 or three screws and a quick switch out...there is even a video on You-tube on how to do it, if your still not sure.

None - yet... That's why I'm joining this fourm
Where did you go to get your taillight replacement? The outer plastic on my driver side taillight cracked and came off. I need to replace it, but I cannot find what I am looking for anywhere online.

    Thanks,

So this literally took no more than a few minutes. As stated above there are two 10mm bolts and you have to yank it out. It was not so difficult to pull out as to think I would break it. I had the new assembly to see exactly what was holding it in there. Some of the wiring harnesses were more stuck than the taillight assembly honestly. Here is where I got it. It shipped on time. http://m.1aauto.com/TYLTL00014/i/TY...ion&email1AReference=c2V0aHJsYXdAZ21haWwuY29t
