There's a black plastic piece under the front bumper of my new 22 SR5. I see a lot of Tacos don't have it. What is it called, what does it do, why does everyone take it off, and will I be cooler if I take it off?

Air dam, its used to reduce drag on the highway.

I tell people to remove it once they put tires on, it shows off the new shoes a lot better and looks more truck like.

If MPG is a daily concern, leave it on.

Thanks, that's what I needed to know. It's my daily driver and I do want better mileage, so I'll leave it on.

Definitly cooler if you take it off lol.

Its for MPG though. So if youre into that rather than off roading and clearing obstacles then leave it on

You will be no cooler, it has nothing to do with the AC.

Some models don’t come with it on. And oddly enough, still have the same fuel mileage listed on the window sticker.

SR Tacoma's may not be as cool when you buy it at the stealership but we still have a lot more money to do mods with that we saved not having to buy a Pro.
I preferred the SR because it gave me a base truck. I have no use for most of that stuff they load the more expensive trucks up with and I built my SR the way I wanted.

Don't let negative folks drag you down, any lady who goes out and buys a pickup truck is pretty cool in my book.:thumbsup:

TRD OffRoad and TRD Pros don't have the front air dam to increase the approach angle.

The Air Dam was on my Sport but I removed it when I added the TRD Skid.

I think SRs are great to add mods as desired.

Anyone who owns a Tacoma is cool no matter what...lol!
