The wife joined Costco for some odd reason and I figured I'd
try the gas at a cheaper price. First batch of gas I put in, about 3/4
    of a tank ran fine.

I put another 3/4 tanks worth in it and noticed on acceleration pinging
    and knocking.

I'm going back to name brand stuff like Shell and Chevron to see if that
    seems to make a diff.

Anyone have any issues with Costco gas ?

Depends on the location. Never had an issue with Costco Gas in Scottsdale. Running only that for the last 2 years. Once in CA on the central coast I bought premium gas for a different vehicle and that car ran like absolute trash until the tank was empty and refilled elsewhere.

Never had issues with shell or chevron. I prefer Shell, but Costco usually has them beat by .40 cents a gallon or more.

I like Lucas total fuel system treatment too. It seems to work a lot better than the Chevron Techron additive.

Nope. The gas they use here in Edmonton is the same shit that gets fed to the gas stations. All are top-tier gas. The gas stations just differs based on the "detergent" that the truck driver puts in the tank.

I'd notify that Costco location. Maybe they need to change the filters out.

I've heard if you fill up while the tanker is refilling the station or shortly after a lot of sediment gets stirred up, which can potentially screw up your vehicle. I've never had that problem though.

Bad gas isn't a common issue at Costco, but it has happened before at various locations.

I pretty much only use Costco 87 and I don't have any issue. I don't notice a difference running that vs. Chevron/Shell

Costco gas is always fresh because a lot of people use them

Yea I understand they use top-tier stuff but it's usually a mix of whatever is left in some tanker that they need
to get rid of so it's a hodge-podge of different stuff. This was the Chandler AZ location off of Elliot across from WMart.

Like I said it as only the second time I bought gas there I'll let this Shell stuff run down and try again and see if it happens
the next time. Then again I'm not so broke that saving .40 a gallon ( 10 gallons = $4.00 big whoop ) is worth the risk.

Costco Gas purchases count towards rewards. It all adds up. ;)

Also, it's not a mix of whatever is left in some random tanker. All gas comes from the same refineries no matter which station/vendor you purchase from. The difference is the additive blends and how well the equipment and pumps are maintained.

Sh*t happens sometimes. It's part of life. Sorry you got a tank full of whiz. :notsure:

Just a few accessories, mud flaps, bed cover , racks, seat covers, ….
We've been using Costco gas for years, saved money and never had any problem. One issue is filling up when Costco tank is almost empty, transferring all that junks and derbies into your gas tank.

Costco mixes in their adatives at each station so they can control exactly what's in the gas.

I’ve ran Costco 85 gas almost exclusively in my truck except for on the road trips I take, then it’s Chevron only. No issues here (78k) miles on the beast!

I would throw in 1 gallon of E85. Will up your octane rating and might get rid of the ping for this tank.

Costco gas is Top-Tier rated, same as stations like Shell and Mobil.

If you had an issue, you should go back to that specific station and talk to them. Bring your receipt.

Bad gas … I used gas at chevron station …my truck would stall at times with the gas … once I changed the gas the problem went away . These trucks are picky on fuel .

    Whaaaaaaaaaaaat?

The notion that COSTCO employees are dumping drums of fuel additives into raw gasoline at each individual COSTCO location/gas station in order to custom-tailor or balance additive blends is ridiculous.

Substantiate that claim with some kind of verifiable article, document, or other primary source.

EDIT: It turns out that @RX1cobra is absolutely right.
