For anyone looking at buying a new truck, you might check and see what local dealers are signed up in the Costco Auto Program for Tacomas. Some dealers have dropped out, but if they still are participating, their pricing was $500 under MSRP in January. Not sure what it is now. But it might pay to become a Costco member and get the reduced pricing. The dealer honors the set price and it's not negotiable. Before the truck and chip shortage it was $500 over invoice. Toyota may not be shipping very many trucks to those dealers however. Anyone else had success using this program?

I am a Costco member and they do indeed have pretty good pricing on certain models. I was actually able to negotiate a better deal myself though.

I got mine for 39k OTD

Their price was pretty competitive, all things considered

Edit: Now that I remember, I was going to buy the truck from the Costco Auto Program (Freeman Toyota in Santa Rosa,Ca) but I walked. They wanted $39,400 I would’ve bought it for $39k

Took their final offer to City Toyota and they accepted my offer of $39k

That's a great deal in these times. Hard to find a used one for that. Low dealer fee also. Good job.

I did the Costco program for my truck. The dealer was great, showed me all of his numbers and made it real easy. All other dealers were $2k over sticker, and the Costco dealer was $3.4K under.

What year did you do that deal? No way that’s happening in the current market.

Highly doubtful any dealers are still participating in this program. It makes no financial sense with the current state of shortages. The Costco program only works for dealers when there is healthy inventory. Being a sellers market, its not going to happen.

I did mine in January for $500 below MSRP. Costco sends the dealers a price sheet on the first of each month telling the dealer what to charge. You can go on the Costco website, tell them what vehicle you want to purchase, and they will tell you the nearest participating dealers and the sales contacts that handle the program. It is for all vehicles, not just Toyota.

I'm not sure about the current deals however I went through the Costco auto program when I bought my '16 and saved around $1600. It was nice - set savings, no haggle, no bs. My mother in-law saved well over a grand on her new murano a few years ago as well. It's legit!

There's still plenty of profit for the dealership at MSRP. The dealers are making more money than ever off the various delay excuses being used lately by not stocking and maintaining inventory and selling everything as soon as it shows up. They're selling just as many trucks as in years past.

Ditto. I bought my Tacoma the first week of December 2020. That deal is ancient history, too.

I bought mine June 2021 with costco auto program and got $1376 off msrp. I agree with others the market is probably way different now, but its definitely worth it to at least try the costco auto program and see when price they can give you. Even if they can only get it down to msrp that probably still better than most places.

2021, SR5 4x4, DCSB, Magnetic Gray Metallic, AT
    • $37,490 - MSRP(before dealer add ons)
    • Options: Tech package ($600), Blackout emblems ($160)
    • Cost of dealer add ons- none($0)
    • $36,114 ($1376 off MSRP)- Price before Tax Title License (TTL) including incentive/rebate
    • 3.68% off MSRP (Discount 1-(#5/#2)*100=% off MSRP))
    • $0 - Incentive (rebate/customer cash) There was a $1000 rebate when I placed the order but its gone now.
    • $38,235 - Price Out The Door (OTD) (4.5% tax = $1400, $600 dealer fee, $22 file fee)
    • Date Purchased: 6/12/21
    • State: Colorado

That is right. My salesman told me that he had his best year ever in 2021. And since they don't have vehicles for test drives, his job is much easier. More telephone, texts, and e-mail. If you look at sales numbers, they weren't down many trucks in 2021. The pipeline is depleted though.

When the 3rd Gens first started arriving on dealer lots in 2015, the Costco Auto Program dealer in my area would not offer Costco pricing on any TRD. Good no haggle Costco deals can be had depending on supply and demand and your region.

I've used Costcy every time. I used it to buy my Taco in 2013 and 2016 and used it to negotiate with a more local dealer buying a Sienna in 2019. I researched every program I could find and never found a better deal than Costoc. Glad I don't have to buy a car in 2022...

Yes, MSRP alone has a healthy profit, but they can’t sell what they don’t have. The current demand outweighs supply . Vehicles are only trickling in ,things are not the same as in ‘years past’, so while they make fewer sales the profits are a lot more.

If you have been shopping for an in demand vehicle, especially EV’s , you will be waiting a while for it .
Common pricing is MSRP plus thousands in market adjustments, as well as mandatory dealer add ons. Its been a sellers market for a while . If someone doesn’t want to pay these inflated prices, there are plenty of waitlists filled with people who will.

Supply/demand doesn’t mean they aren’t still selling the same number of vehicles. Might be more demand but the production numbers aren’t much different than past years.

Supply still outweighs demand. Used Tacoma pricing is thru the roof. Recently purchased trucks actually began to appreciate , causing people to buy new instead. Dealers caught on and want their extra piece of profit in the form of market price adjustments.
