So on the trail today I slid off a large rock and did some serious damage to the driveshaft between the carrier bearing and the diff:(. From what I saw the u joints looked good and the carrier bearing didnt seem to have damage either. Has anyone had to get that part of the tube re-done and about how much did it/should it cost me?
I want to have an idea of how much I should expect to spend.
    Thanks guys

Call a driveline shop - but you can get an entire new driveshaft made up for less than 500.

Put a big dent in my '05 DC drive shaft, same place, some time ago...was about $425 to have it re-tubed.

    Sucks.

Dad high-centered his '74 K5 on a Terra Del Sol run. Lucky it rested on either the transfer case or the crossmember... don't remember, but he didn't replace anything, just installed a full set of skids.
I remember he was always worried about the shaft, but he never put any protection behind the transfer case.... other than the heat shields that he welded up above the mufflers after we found the fuel in the aux tank BOILING

We were cruising in New Mexico and heard a "BUMP!"
Pulled over to figure out what it was, popped the gas cap on the aux tank "whoooosh".... gurgle gurgle gurgle gurgle
    Holy fuck.

Tough call on if the RC is any better on the shaft.
    Shorter wheelbase +1
    Single-piece shaft -1

DCLB is an awesome truck, but the damn thing is too long for many garages!

Having a short shaft does have its benefits from time to time.

My original re tube on the Tacoma was $245 done by drivelines incorperated, their prices reflect market price of metal as well as labor etc.
    http://www.drivelinesinc.com/

Paid $215 bucks to have the driveshaft shortened on my crawler..

I dinged my driveshaft pretty good last weekend and now I'm getting a crazy vibe at 65 and above so need to have it re tube again

Mine was pretty much flattened, I hit it harddd.

I just dropped it off at the local driveline shop and they quoted about $160. So thankfully not too bad!:bananadance:

$140 for a re-tube and balance here in IN.

Also make sure they are going to balance it, and bring in the front section of the shaft because it must be balanced as an assembly.

I'm guessing you also save a few bucks if you take it off and carry it to them instead of driving the truck in.
