P5070033.jpg Anyone have an idea how much a new windshield will cost me on our '21 Pro?

Last Monday as we were driving through Durango on the way to Pagosa Springs, CRACK! Never saw the rock, but it hit up near the rear view mirror on the passenger side. After a couple of days, the crack has progressed most of the way down the passenger side in a zig-zag. Wife says it looks like the mark of Zorro.

So, a new windshield is required. I'm trying to decide whether to pay out-of-pocket or get the insurance co. involved. Want only an OEM windshield. Will make some calls on Monday, but thought somebody on here may have a clue on cost. TIA for any help.

In Florida, auto insurance companies have to pay all the costs for windshield repairs if you have comprehensive coverage. Check with your insurance company before paying out of pocket.

Suggest to have Safelite replace the windshield and let the Comprehensive cover it. Pay the deductible if applicable.

This repair isn't a big shake.

I only paid my deductible through my insurance and got a OEM windshield, but if i had to pay it out of pocket it would have been $1100. they also recalibrated the lane departure sensor. That was for a 2018 SR5

Had to have mine replaced two weeks ago. Gravel trucks here in town are a dime a dozen...4 gravel pits in 5 miles. Anyways...$50 deductible through Geico, had Safelite put it in.

Had to recalibrate twice to get the truck happy. Partly my fault, I put in LED headlights in halogen headlight pods. Partly install guys fault, just assumed they were stock LED headlights. I guess they calibrate at a slightly different angle of the dangle. All happy now.

Even had a call from my dealership/service dept that the truck was not happy. Wanted to make sure that I didn't need a service appointment. Told them what had happened, and service guy said that they had not experienced that issue. But was being noted for future calibration issues with other trucks.

Had mine replaced at a local glass shop in Northern CA two weeks ago. Cost was $330 for non OEM glass and installation, and an additional $300 for calibration. I got a quote from Safelite for $850.

Got mine replaced at a local auto glass place in Seattle for $330, didn’t need recalibration and it’s been good to go everything still works perfectly. Insurance is different state by state so worth looking into but for me it was cheaper than having to pay my $500 deductible.

275 pilkington glass, no recalibration. Just slide off and don’t disconnect.

If you have insurance that is worth anything the deductable should be about $100 for comprehensive. I think when I had the lowest coverage amount on a beater vehicle, it was still only $150 for comprehensive. a OEM part is going to be 10x that much or more installed.

Shoot, my comprehensive deductible is $500, but I can get the whole windshield replaced (non OEM I assume) for $200 was my quote from a local shop in town but that was pre-pandemic. Still need to get it replaced . Perhaps next week, curious to see if it’s gone up, I can only assume it has but hopefully not a ton. Safelite was quoting about $485 just a tad under my deductible anyway.

Sounds like the TSS stuff in the newer ones makes it a little more complicated.

Don’t know the exact cost, but elsewhere on TW it has been mentioned that the 2018 and newer all cost the same, so I would get the 2018 glass, as it will have the GoPro mount. 2018 was the only year with both TSS and the GoPro mount.

Sorry bud. Had my first rock chip on my ‘20 TRD Pro as well last week. Luckily it was just a small chip, went straight to safelite to get it filled in/repaired.

Novus Glass quoted me $576.00 for an after market windshield, including the recalibration of the sensors. When I stated that I wanted an OEM windshield ( it IS a new truck) the price went up to $11xx.00. I got the insurance co. involved but my comprehensive deductible is $250 (my choice to keep the premiums down). Insurance woman I spoke with got pissy when I said I wanted OEM--duh.

I do live in "the middle of nowhere" where there's not much competition around here. The OEM glass had to be ordered.

    Look at it this way.

You're getting a new OEM windshield installed with calibration for $250.

    Smile, be happy.

In most states they don't charge a deductible for windshield replacement. As long as you have comprehensive (NOT collision) insurance.

    Yeah.
This is why I do a $50 deductible on comprehensive. It doesn't add much at all to your premium and makes a difference in non-collision situations. But definitely check -- State Farm used to waive the deductible on repairs, and had a fixed deductible on replacement as long as you carried comprehensive. They changed that, but your state and coverage may be different.

I've gone through many windshields over the years. From what I recall, there are only a few manufacturers of windshields, despite there being many dealers. FWIW, Safelite was way out of line price-wise compared to some independent shops, for the EXACT same hunk of glass.

Hey, I AM happy that we're getting a new OEM windshield. Next Friday. YAY!

Here in Colorado, you have to pay your comprehensive deductible for glass replacements. We have The Hartford (AARP) insurance.
