I have a 2007 Tacoma Access Cab PreRunner Sport, Dark mica pearl blue. There are a lot of chips and scratches all over the front bumper and leading edge of the hood from being driven down gravel roads in Texas. There are some large chips (1 inch x half inch) on the right hand front fender, scratches down to the bare metal just behind the driver side TRD Sport logo, scratches on the tailgate, paint fading in front of the false hood scoop, and paint fading on the roof. How much would it cost me to have my truck re-painted the same color, and as another option, how much would it cost to have it painted bright white? Would touch-up paint of the same factory color do the trick for the scratches (not the fading paint) or would it look even worse? I'm just graduating high school, so I'm not able to spend more than $400-500. I paid for my truck myself through a LOT of hard work, and am probably going to have it for a very long time, since I will be going to college and medical school. Am I pretty much screwed and gonna get the "deal with it" answer (if so, don't even bother answering), or is there hope? I take pride in my truck, and I want it looking good.

I had my front bumper repainted on my last truck because some kid scratched it. Bumper alone was about $400 to repaint. Now, that was a professional high quality repaint. Not some maco paint job.

Yeah, don't want to go with cheap paint jobs; it'll just be a headache when it fails.
With your budget, keep the cash, and get OEM paint, spray for larger areas-mask and spray. Brush for the scratches, but take your time. You should really address the rust areas immediately. For the roof, either several coats of cleaner/wax or go with a clay bar process. Same with hood.
You can do an ok job this way. The truck is 8 model years old so don't fret too much.

Have you thought about dipping the truck? It would cover the problems you're having, be unique, and if applied correctly, it would be easy to remove when you get the funds to actually paint the truck properly...

Under $500 for the entire kit to do your vehicle.

You're probably looking at a few grand depending on how much body work is needed. Maybe save up for a year or two and have it done the right way? You mentioned you would keep it for a long time

I talked to a guy who PlastiDipped his Escalade. He loves it. And if he changes his mind, he'll just peel it off.

Might not be the best answer, but for the short term, you probably can't beat it.

I use to fix up cars and sell them, and about 15 years ago it was typically about $400-600 for a single coat cheap paint job without a clear coat, not including a lot of body work. For a full fledged professional paint job you are looking anywhere between $3,000 to $7,000 depending on the body work, and the color and coats you choose. You can always choose to do what the others have suggested and just dip the whole truck. It's very simple and can be reversed if needed. Total cost is like others have stated to be around $400-$500. Dipyourcar.com is a common place to get everything you need if it's something you would consider. I have thought about repainting my truck as well, but I think I would save the money and get it done probably in a pearl white color. Still debating.

Bw s256 turbo with 3 in glass pack dumped pre axle raptor liner bed and top rails and fenderflares and rocker panels. Hunter side steps. Plasti-dipped upper fenders and emblems. satin black spray paint here and there inside and out. 5100's set to 1.75" up front . C channel front bumper. Maxxis bighorn 255/85/16
Another member on here just linex his whole truck... and it looks AMAZING. it cost $2000, but there is a product called raptor liner that comes in a kit with a gun and if u have an air compressor, its super easy and really affordable. 2 kits (4 bottles of product, a bottle of catylist and a gun per kit) should do ur whole truck. The kits are about $130 ish. I did 3 coats on my bed and 2 coats on my fenders and rocker panels with 3 bottles(although i would recomend atleast 3 coats) the only issue ive had is right next to the flares where i couldnt sand well, i should have taken them off and done the separate. Just an idea[IMG][IMG]

I like how everyone says "They can just peel it off" - have you actually ever TRIED to peel off plastidip, it's not like it comes off in one big sheet.... it'd take days to get it all off of an entire car.

Like others are saying I would save up. If you spend 400-500 on a paint job it will look like shit because of orange peel, runs, dust nibs, solvent pop because there's no way they will spend the time to stop these things from happening and fix it when it does happen. It WILL happen if your painting an entire vehicle it can't be avoided.

And if it is a cheapo job the material is really shitty quality also the clear coat might start to fail in a year or two.

Save up and get a quality job instead of doing it twice and save yourself a headache. Maybe plasti dip it in the meantime?

edit: lol did you WATCH that video - he said that car had 6 (SIX) coats of plastidip.. so it has two separate colors, he did 3 purple, 3 orange, like I said - it's never been that easy for me - I would also guess with 6 coats he has more than 1000$ of material on that car.

assuming you have plastidipped properly you'll have to remove accessories at least, including bumpers, miorrors, over fenders, etc - however you should be able to get large panels off in a single pull if they are not damaged - I've seen all the videos and every time I have platidipped something it was never that easy, the problem if any damage in the plastidip will cause it to perforate or tear - I open to having possibly done it wrong, but still... it's not like it's trivial.

Matt, I'm >< that close to linexing the lower quarter of the truck and the front/rear bumper - I went wheeling this week and incurred some scratches that didn't make me too happy....

Sorry $300 for the car kit and $450 for a truck kit. Don't just make up numbers lol

Considering a good paint job will cost $7,000 I'll gladly unscrew my door handles...
