What’s the typical cost for programming a replacement smartkey? I know the dealership will do it for $450 all in, I’m wondering how much a third party service charges to cut the key and program the fob.

When I checked no third party had the ability to cut a key for Toyota requires a special bit/blade which no key smith has or had at least in my area. I was told by everyone I went to that only Toyota could supply this service. As to reprogramming the key fob I didn’t try to do this.

Dealer needs to do this. No 3rd party. Labor i would say less than $75 to program new key fob

Not sure if it can be done on newer vehicles, but I paid $60 for a local locksmith to make one for my 2007. But that was about 10 years ago.

Provided you don't need a key cut, it's $100 for a new fob and around $60 to get it programmed. Or just find someone local with Techstream or good scantool for a case of beer. I did my own after wife lost the spare though I didn't get the key cut which is not that important to me.

    Fob I successfully programmed:

    OEM Electronic 3-Button Smart Key Fob Remote Compatible With Toyota (FCC ID: HYQ14FBA, P/N: 89904-0E090, 89904-0E091, 89904-0E092, 89904-60J70) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08VDVFB2V

My additional key was $171 for the key, $35 for programming. Manual trans, so no start button. I think the key is the same as the key for SR5 models. Purchased from my dealer, you can probably find them much cheaper elsewhere...but would still need it to be programmed.

Your stupid key probably isn’t 5 bucks before you celebrate, not as expensive as the one smarter than yours, but by no means cheap.
A $40 AirTag is good insurance either way.

Can a new blade be replaced on an old fob for the “H”

But I've only got a few years left so.... there ya go.

I don't know if it is the same for the newer vehicles, especially on 2022+ models, but I was able to register and program keys for my 2017 with techstream.

Cutting the blade goes for around $65 in my area. I knew someone at a car rental that will cut keys for me.

If it is a virgin key, you will need your original master key to start the programming process on techstream. It will guide you step by step, so it isn't difficult.

Losing the originals or Used keys require resetting the immobilizer, which needs tokens ($25-30 for 5 tokens).

The Lexus wallet card key is a popular mod to do.20220926_234808.jpg

I was in the $250 range ish, going my memory.

Wallet card was $90ish, spare key for wallet card $40ish, cut the spare key for the wallet card $35ish, then the reprogram to add the key was under $90.
All done at a professional locksmith.

No regrets. Wallet card is great for date night or when you just don't feel like carrying your fob.
Added bonus, I take the Lexus key whenever I have a dealership service. Everyone at the dealership is so impressed they can't believe it works. They think I'm some sort of Toyota Wizard. It always make me chuckle and I kindly explain its a simple mod I read about on a thread.

As was said above, folks with TechStream and a Tactrix adapter can do it for free. Cutting the emergency key is dependent. Mine was less than $5.

I did similar to this except used car and truck remotes.com / dealer programmed for $90 or around there. Less then 100 for sure.

i got an aftermarket FOB for $100 and my buddy program it and cut it for free. only thing that $100 aftermarket key works but drains the batter fast so after a month it will have no signal an you have to pushtheykey to start. my buddy did told me he never tried the aftermarket toyota one cuz they are finicky, guess he was right. so i just relayed the aftermarket to a spare set

Couldn't say for certain, but it seems logical that it could. I presume the transponder is in the fob.

You know, I have a sr5 so just the chip key. I tried to just get the key part copied and Walmart wouldn’t. They said they aren’t allowed to just make the key itself and don’t have the machine to copy the chip.

Are they BSing or is this true? Anyone with an sr5 able to make a copy of just the key? I only want it so I can keep a spare in case I lock myself out of my truck.

I got an extra fob from Tom's key online, sent them photos of my existing key and they cut it and sent me a loaner phone and the box to plug into the OBD port. Don't remember what it cost though. The key fit perfect.
