I was talking to a local company about ceramic coating my new Sport and they mentioned they also offer Corrosion Free rust proofing with a warranty. I was just about to order a gallon of Fluid Film until he peaked my interest.

Does anyone have experience with this product?

It is good quality like Krown or Rust Check. Get it done if you like your truck.

    Thanks Will.
The first application is $150 and they recommend re-applying it every 18 months for $150 each time. That sounds fair to me and comparable to Fluid Film. Is this close to what you've been told?

It's the cat's ass man.... I have been using it for 30 years, in 5 vehicles. I very highly recommend it. It's a bit costly, but if you want to talk to the applier he my do what I do. After 2 years FULL treatment......

He gives me a great reduction in price for going yearly follow ups...( not the FULL spray ). The warranty goes, but you will not need it anyway.

He just goes for the areas that have shed some and does not need to hit it %100.........

    Great product.

Also...it stops ALL squeaks and protect wiring & rubber.

cosmoline is more like fluid film on steroids. I've use both, imo, cosmoline is better longer lasting that the military uses....its nasty stuff if it gets on you, especially your clothing. There's a lot of stuff out there now, some pretty good. This stuff doesn't seen anything special.

I purchased the corrosionfree do-it yourself kit with the gravity spray gun. The kit included application wands to get into frame rails, rocker panels, tail gate, above the fender and into small drain plugs. Took me about 2 hours to completely do my Taco, used about 2 litres (1/2 a gallon) of the product. The product does not drip after application, it is best to do the application when the weather is warm as the product is quite thick.

Yup, I've heard good things about Woolmax too and the black option would look nice on the undercarriage.

It sounds like Corrosion Free, Fluid Film, and Woolmax are all pretty similar.

    Canada Eh!
    IMO Cosmoline>corrosion free>wool wax>fluidfilm

Anything that stays relatively “liquidy” will wash off in high splash zones like wheel wells, control arms, front of rear axle etc. Anything is better than nothing though!

In NW Ontario Canada where copious amounts of salt and chemicals are dumped on the road I opted for the most “stout” option. Ie Cosmoline.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/rust-veto-342-cosmoline-undercoating.651180/#post-22805203

To date, 99% of what I applied is still perfectly in place and looking great. The only thing that affects this stuff is if it’s physically rubbed off from branches, which is minimal. Other than the exhaust, my truck is still 100% rust free. Cosmoline is affected by heat, but none of what I sprayed on the exhaust heat shields has melted away. Additionally, the vehicle is much cleaner to work on. Cosmoline will eventually transfer to your hands if you warm up the part you’re handling, but still better than the liquid undercoatings.

My brothers 3 year old full size truck, which has Crown applied ever year, is showing lots of frame rust in the rear wheel wells.

I was surprised how good cosmoline looks once its dried which takes about an hour. Seems the only stuff that removes it easily is mineral sprits or paint thiner. Last i checked salt spray isn't one of them.

I believe any solvent will. I used gasoline on a rag in a pinch to remove some overspray.

    Interesting.
I read through your post; so you truck looked pretty good in the spring eh? Does it look like it creeped into the areas you thought it would?
I see the Fluid Film spray wands didn't work too well though? With your experience, what would be your recommendation for applying this stuff?

I have gotten corrosion free sprayed on my 2018 the last two years. No rust yet. I live in the northeast. I paid 170 for the dealer to do the job. It doesn't drip. Smells for a couple weeks then goes away.

    Overall very happy.

The wands worked *well enough*. I doubt it creeps all that well, hence why I tried to be as thorough spraying directly into every crevasse. It definitely “runs” if you overspray, which I intentionally did into many of the enclosed areas like the pinch welds. The excess would run out the drain holes until the solvents flashed off.

Something that I think worked well was “fogging” large relatively enclosed areas to help coat everything, such as the bedsides. Spraying out of the nozzle directly with the pressure jacked up into these areas would atomized the Cosmoline really well and completely fog the area.

I only have about 6months on my application, so I’ll have a much better idea next spring on how good it is. Before the end of the summer, I’ll be pulling the front bumpers to spray all the sheet metal behind that and see if any other areas need touching up. (Other the 1 or 2 spots on the rear axle that rubbed on some trees, everything looks fantastic).

I’ll update my Cosmoline thread when I have a better look.
