Sorry to start yet another tire thread here, but I am torn....

Looking to replace my stock Rugged Trails, and go up a size perhaps (265/75/16).

Truck: 2WD TRD Off Road Prerunner
Location: Bay Area, CA (so no snow, other than occasional trips to the mountains during winter, but rarely).
Driving habits: Truck is daily driver, and probably sees 90% highway driving, lots of commuting. I drive approx 17-20k miles a year. I like to take road trips as well, and do light off roading (fire roads, gravel, mild trails/ruts, but that's the extent of it. No rock crawling or "mudding".)

    Tires I am considering:
Cooper AT3 - reasons: Price, looks, and seems to be well reviewed here and other places

Michelin LTX MS/2 - reasons: Seems to be best highway tire out there, and after seeing what @qnyla said here with his experience with them off-roading, and seeing the pictures in his original 400k mile thread, seems like it could handle my need for "light offroading" just fine.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/michelin-ltx-m-s-or-defender-ltx-for-light-off-road.419777/

Either tire I would get the basic "passenger-load" rated version, whatever that may be accordingly.

The Coopers may look a little "cooler" and is an AT tire but I am wondering if the Michelin's would be the smarter move given my driving habits.

Thoughts? Or am I missing some other obvious option here?

I put the Coopers in 265/75/16 "P-rated" on a few weeks ago and have been nothing but impressed. Quiet, they ride well, and it rained/flooded all last week and they were superb in the wet. As you stated, I can't find a bad review on them either.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I've been running stock size BFG Commercial T/A traction tires for the last year and they're f'n great. (not the Mastercraft Courser STR in my sig-but $ for $ the Mastercraft were awesome, too)

I'm purchasing my second set of Cooper A/T3's later tonight... been very happy with them. I've got the LT version, and we've seemingly got very similar driving habits as well.

Check out Discount Tire on Ebay, they've got a $100 off deal that ends tonight, and you can still get the $70 MIR from Cooper

I forgot to mention that - yeah the $100 off a $400 order + free shipping is a stellar deal.

I was gonna get the tires from a buddy who's in the business at his wholesale/distributer pricing, but the discount deal turned out to be $20 cheaper, and I can for sure get the MIR from Cooper, whereas I wasn't sure if I could from him.

These are two tires that perfectly compare accordingly to their mileage warranty and cost: The AT3's carry a 55k mile warranty and you'll easily get 55k miles out of them. The M/S2's cost about $50 more per tire, carry a 70k mile warranty, which you'll easily get out of them, and are hands down the best highway tire in existence.

Again, can't go wrong with either tire, you just need to decide how much you want to spend, and which one you like the look of better. It sounds like Cooper has a good deal going right now. Make a decision already!

Hankook Dynapro ATMs are pretty similar in price to the Discoverer A/T3 and are usually the favorite over the Coopers.

I have them and love them.

Yes that $70 rebate from Cooper sealed the deal. Just bought a set off ebay. Thanks @boostedka for the thread man. Saved me some coin.

I went ahead and ordered the Cooper AT3's in 265/75/16 (size up) on eBay. $435 for all 4 tires with the discount, too good of a deal to pass up.

    Thanks everyone!

Nice choice! I paid almost $700 in October of 2014 so I would say you got a hell of a deal!

That tire didn't just blow out. That sidewall damage is from driving on that tire under inflated. Its not a tire defect.
