Hey all, I’m looking to get a new set of tires. Going up to 285/75/16 and coming from the ridge grapplers

They were great and got about 55k out of them.

Was considering trying Cooper but I’ve heard mixed reviews on their wear. Someone mentioned to me they changed something in the tire over the last few years

Thoughts? How many miles were you getting out of yours?

I ran a set in the 255/80r17 size. Had them on for about 10k miles before i sold the truck. Wear was good. Traction was good. Noise was good. I doubt id buy them again, prices have blown up the last few years.

Ya they are like 300 bucks a tire. How was your gas mileage? And what tire would you look into?

My set just lasted 55K and had plenty left. I dont spin my tires, don't brake hard or do donuts. And I say this because some yahoo is going to chime in and say they only lasted 20K but leave out all these extras.
They are great tires, I never once had to get a flat fixed on them. The top photo are right when I took them off. I ended up replacing them with Wildpeaks, i was looking for a quiet SL tire.
The coopers were quiet for about the first 40K...got a little loud toward the end, (but nowhere near duratrac loud). They always got me where i needed to go.

Did you see a big hit on gas with these vs your sl?

@hyrule_trd has had some wear issues recently with his St Maxx’s.

I’m also considering them (and the ridge grapplers) for my next tire.

I had 265/75/16 ridge my last set and they did well. Have a blade in them currently and it’s not leaking luckily, and luckily needed a new set anyways, got about 50ish out of them and and could have gone little more with no a/t tread left

That’s good to hear, I’m torn between the two because both tires have such mixed reviews. Some reviews are great, others are terrible.

Here’s 2 of mine with about 20k miles. My guess is my alignment was out longer than I knew and/or I missed 10k worth of rotations.

You are going to take a hit on mileage going up a size, especially up to 285. Load range not so much.
I have had 265/75/16 since my truck was 2 weeks old, I never even ran a full tank on the stock tires.
My Coopers were E and when I went to SL Wildpeaks I saw no change in mileage (city or highway). And I keep track of all my mileage with an app. But the ride is much smoother, and it has much more pep and acceleration.

I am on my 2nd set of st maxx. First set I ran I got about 30k miles. I could have likely squeezed 5k more out but I got a nasty blow out from some metal in the road. I did have an interesting wear pattern. I was not consistent with my rotations. Anyways, bought a new set…. big price jump…. Idk if these tires are worth the 330 lol! I drive a little aggressively so I expected to be on the lower end of the range when they reported 30-50k on these tires.

Now that I think about it, I kept 2 of the 1st set. They are in my barn, I’ll measure the tread tomorrow and see if 5k more miles would have been realistic.

Debating putting them on mine. ST Maxx or AT3's are my debate.
I have 3 years of NM roads on the set of maxx on my F150 offroad, plenty of tread left and a great tire. I go by years, miles mean nothing here. 50k+?
Have 4 years on the Kendas and getting 16" wheels so I can get tires. Keep the 15 set up as back ups.
Every other tire I have tried lasted a year or 2. NM roads are the worst.
And price does not mean much these days. It will go up.
12 miles of gravel/dirt to pavement makes a difference. E load only.
The maxx noise is nominal IMHO. The hwy mileage might be better with the AT3's.

This might sound crazy. I had the 265/75/16 ST Maxx on my 2015 TRD OR. Put them on at around 35k miles and did 5 tire rotations every 5k. Mix of highway, street, snow and forest service roads. They were at 8/32” when my truck got totaled last month at 116k miles.

What kind of fuel mileage are people getting with 265 75 16s? Everything else stock

265/75/16 on a 2012 v6, double cab 4x4, driving grandpa style. City 15.5 Highway 17.7. I believe the factory spec for mpg are 16/21
Interesting enough, I just switched over to same size Wildpeaks in SL which are significantly lower weight, and almost no change in MPG. (I have used the same Fuelly app to track since 2012)
