Anybody run these and have an opinion? Thinking of upgrading the factory rubber. I tow frequently in the summer and rack up a lot of miles so don't want to adversely effect power and MPGs with a huge and heavy tire. I have stock suspension, factory 16" OR wheels, and the manual tranny. Also considering the 235/85 Cooper AT3 LT or Duratrac 265/75. Per the specs the AT3 weighs 8 lbs less than the MAXX.

I also deal with a lot of snow and ice in the winter.

Just the essentials and no extra fluff.
I have the ST Maxx in that size. I don’t tow much at all. Last time I checked I was getting ~16mph with the 4.0 automatic, the rest of the truck is stock. I’ve been happy with them in the snow, especially since they’re not a “winter” tire. They’re not great on the ice, maybe they would be better studded; but I use them year round. Tensioning chains on them can be difficult due to the side lugs. I’m planning on replacing them with the same tire, same size. Currently ~35k miles on them.

If you offroad, get the STT, if 99% road use, AT3.

I may be late to the party but I got the 235/85r16 Cooper STMaxx instead of the AT3 LT a few months ago. I also have a manual and power loss was very slight but gas mileage is down significantly. I drive a lot of steep hills and am in 4wd every day that I drive and that seems to have the biggest negative impact on gas mileage. Towing is not a problem with the tires, power-wise. I tow a flatbed (3,000 lbs empty) just fine. These tires shine in wet weather, haven't gotten into snow yet. Gas mileage is acceptable on the highway.

Aside from the gas mileage, the tires at street pressures are horrible on gravel roads (fine if you air down). If I got to redo it I'd try the AT3 (8 lbs a tire is a big deal) and get stuck more often. Aside from having to go load range E I really like the tire size.
