Stock for the most part, with plenty of small mods to keep me busy
New shoes for my OR DCSB yesterday. I’ll hopefully give some reports over the coming months/years of miles, mostly on-road but off in the hills as well.

I researched this forum, TireRack and t4r.org for all kinds of ideas regarding AT tires. I think I got to the point of exhaustion! So many opinions, pro’s and con’s of every tire available - and then there’s sizing! In the end I decided to go for something new, made in the USA, and with a reasonable price and tread life. Stock size for the OR, 265/70/16.

Enter the Cooper Discoverer ATP ll. It looks to be a relatively new tire made for Discount/America’s Tire, siping and tread look good enough, and the sidewalls are modern aggressive but not over the top.

I like em. On install I decided to keep the white letters in for a subdued look. I usually run door pressures, but will air down off road if I’m out for a long drive. Felt great on the hour drive home, quieter than the 33K stock Goodyears they replaced, but I’m sure thats to be expected.

That’s a good looking set of tires!

I really like the look of the sidewall.

    AT tire research… exhaustion. Yes!

I’m looking to replace the stock tires on my 2017 Tacoma: Goodyear Wrangler All Terrain Adventure with Kevlar. I had hoped to get a few more miles out of them, but at close to 50K, they are approaching end of life.

I’ve not found a lot of reviews online for the Cooper Discoverer ATP II. What has your experience been like with them so far? Ride quality? Noise? Gas mileage? Wear?

    Thank you,

I want to update this. I unexpectedly needed a new set of tires for the suburban. Price point was an issue because we just replaced tires on another vehicle and got the cooper at3-4s.

I didn’t at the time realize that the ATP was a discount/americas tire only tire.

so I called cooper to find out what they were and how they compared to the at3.

the guy on the phone said they are the same carcass, sidewall and rubber compound as the at3-4s; they just have a custom lug pattern.

so the reason they don’t have the triple mountain snow flake rating etc is because they were not tested. But if the at3-4s is rated then the atp will react the same to cold weather!

so I’m happy to have saved the money!

    Pardon the interruption....
I'm thinking of replacing with 265x75x16w/-10 offset(keeping oem wheels). Trying to avoid any rubbing in this setup. Was that a concern in choosing the x70 size? Your new shoes look great. My budget was leaning toward the Cooper Discoverer AT3 4s. The x75 over the x70 will add 1" of height. Any thoughts ? Thanks

I have had mine on for just under a year. These tires are super quiet like a H/T tire. But have a more aggressive sidewall like a hybrid. They are great in snow as well. I have LT285/75R16 on my stock TRD Pro. upload_2022-1-20_17-44-25.jpg upload_2022-1-20_17-43-39.jpg

I am surprised there isn’t more interest in this tire. They look great with the sidewall and the price is very reasonable. Is there a downside?

Any updates on how these tires are wearing and doing ? Hard to beat the price.

Guess I can do an update at some point. I had and appointment with discount tire and had ordered falken wildpeaks last week. After a few inches of snow yesterday, the tire shop was busier than they expected I'm sure and gave them to someone else. Pretty frustrating they only had 2. Since I needed tires and they couldn't get 2 more wildpeaks by Wednesday when I'm leaving town, I went with these Cooper discoverer atp ii. Looked decent compared to other tires. They should be on and I can pick up my truck in a couple hours. With some snow left on roads and some neighborhoods having some ice left, guess today will be a good day to test these out in Colorado springs

Mine are great on dry, wet roads have not had them out in snow yet but they feel like a great tire.

i have about 1000 miles on them. drove from colorado springs to santa fe the week i got them. maybe i was more critical of road noise, but they seemed a little quieter. This is completely my opinion though. i did add some weather stripping to the doors once i got down there and there might have been a slight difference on the way back. road noise seems to come from the top of the back doors, but this also doesn't seem related to the tires.

its snowed a few times here in springs since i got them too. stopping power on wet snow/ice is much better than the stock goodyears with 35k on them. i haven't done anything crazy off road since i got them. i did drive around some ice/snow covered forest roads to cut down a tree and felt really confident with these tires.

some city roads have been pretty ice covered with sporadic snowing here. no problems anywhere. a couple times i saw some other cars spin out and loose traction when i didnt. i can't say if that was because i was in 4wd or feathering the throttle or what, but i haven't slid on accident since i got them.

i drove from buena vista back to colorado springs when it was like 0 degrees outside with some colder/wet roads. again, no issues.

i still go back and forth on if i would have liked the wildpeaks more, but no real way of knowing.

as of now, i would get these tires again, though its only been 1000 miles so far.

Bought mine and promptly, like that day, had to drive 1000 miles through winter conditions. Over multiple mtn passes, -3 to 47 degrees they did very well. In high speed highway traffic they held their line, smooth ride, not a noticeably loud tire, on gravel roads at high speed sliding was predictable and good breaking and acceleration. Predictable in ice and snow. Definitely noticed them getting better over a few hundred miles as they scrubbed in. I dont think this would be apparent usually but I literally went from discount tire to travelling over highway mtn passes in a snowstorm.

I had the at3 4s's before and I like these better. I think the siping and tread performs better at icy traction and snow shedding.

it wasn't even raining that hard here yesterday. like a light drizzle for an hour or so. driving home i came to one of those red lights on the on ramp for the interstate. i gassed it a bit more than i normally would to get in front of the fedex truck next to me and had some wheel slip in the rear. traction control lights flashed for about a second before i finally got traction.

im certain this would have happened with the stock tires. but i lost a little bit of confidence

IMG_0833.jpg IMG_0830.jpg IMG_0831.jpg Got mine put on yesterday. 285/75r16. The goal was better on road tire performance but still able to hit the trails. First impressions are nice. You can hear the tire noise barely, and the difference in ride roughness has been phenomenal. Time will tell.

I've had the canadian version since 2022 for my summer set.

For the price I've never been happier. I still have 50% left and they are reasonably noisy for a 10 ply all terrain.

They suck at cold, no way around it, I run a dedicated winter.

Interesting. I'll deff be putting them to the test towing in the snow.

I find snow is fine, its ice and packed snow thats the issue, we see way worse temps here in Canada though, near freezing these tires are fine, but anything below they start to show their weakness.

But the trade off is, a hard tire last forever. Way better wear than my cooper AT34s's.

That's good to hear! Down here we have pretty mild winters but do see some gnarly weather driving from time to time. I'll post back after a few seasons of use my thoughts on this tire.
