Truck has been parked for 2 days. Out of habit popped the hood to look around. Reservoir is low.
-I checked footwell area for leaks, all dry
    - Everything is dry under the hood
    - Couldn’t see any dry coolant residue anywhere
    - Dabbed some coolant on a white towel it’s clean and pink
    - Oil is clean
    - No smell of coolant
I’m over 35k, if there is a leak I’d like this to be fixed under warranty before it expires.

I guess I’m looking for suggestions, but also for other Tacoma owners to check their reservoirs for reference.

Nothing wrong, lots of vehicles slowly lose coolant, Toyota's 4 cylinders usually have to be topped up at oil changes. Yours just likely hasnt been topped up ever.

I did not know this. I’ll have to get a jug of oe coolant and top it of.
I don’t think I’ve ever had to top off any other cars I’ve ever owned, that’s what threw me off.

    For sure.
I’ll probably get under one of these days and have a closer look.
I know another owner had a leak from a plastic pipe at rear of the engine-near the firewall, that’s something else to investigate.
I’ll update this thread if I find anything

Likely weren't topped off at the 5k dealer interval you paid for. My coolant level was near the same level at my 10k interval, which meant they didn't top off mine the first time it was brought in.

Apparently not. Is there a stipulation in the maintenance handbook that talks about topping off coolant?

    Also I’ll check water pump/weephole

I noticed mine was low (read: empty) and that’s why I searched here. That’s when I came across the scary link I posted. I didn’t have the same issues so just topped off and will monitor. It’s hot AF here right now and after a week the res was pink so clearly water is passing back and forth. No puddles so I’m just keeping track for now.

    list is growing fast
mine was low when I looked at 50k. so i put some in. Not too concerned but if it's low again soon I'll have to do some investigating. I feel like it's normal though.

here's a pic of where i think the coolant went. out the return hose coming in the top of the res.IMG_8450.jpg

Mine has slight whitish residue at that location, though it’s not pink so I’m not sure. If it is in fact where it’s going, then it’s no big deal.

Dude I’ve owners more cars than can count, and I am a car guy, not once have I had to add coolant when it wasn’t warranted. This seems odd, especially on a relatively new car.

Mine was low also and I asked the dealer about it (my dealership has been reputable the entire time I've owned the truck, so hopefully I can trust them), but basically he said that that is an overfill reservoir, and that my coolant level is not actually low (even though there is clearly a fill bar on the tank). He said that the engine will use what it needs and will constantly be adjusting the level in the reservoir.

Mine was down from a magic marker line on the tank at my 5K and they added some . I noticed the leaking on the hose in the above pic also. I disconnected it , cleaned it and put a hose clamp on it . I put a black dot at the level at the time , and 18K and 2 1/2 years later it is at the same level.

This is whete I was at 2/1/18 with 21,000 miles; had it pressure tested and filled. I'm back at the same level with 30,000 miles.
