Hey all. New to the forum and tried searching but didn't find what I was looking for. I know there are tons of Halogen to LED conversions, but I want to do the opposite. I am considering getting a '21 OR and I feel like the LED might be the more popular choice, ie. more stock. I happen to like the look of the halogen headlights more and if I end up with the LED's and want to convert to halogen is there a harness that I could use?
Obviously I would need new housings but I am a "lighting enthusiast" to put it simply and have retrofitted many lights so wiring, and modifications aren't out the window.

    Thanks all!

I have actually done one of these already as surprising as it is. So yeah, it’s doable :)

I am totally surprised this has not been bombarded with all the people, myself included, who will be glad to make a deal with you regarding their old headlights that they took out when they swapped them for LED ones! Having said that though, it is really easy to do, just make sure you get the headlights that are for your particular model. It is literally plug and play; unplug your LED lights, take them out [using various youtube videos that show you how to remove headlights] and then reinstall the new halogen ones. In my case, I have a 2019 TRD Sport that came with halogens. I ordered LED ones that were simply plug and play, so all I had to do was unplu the old ones, and then plug in the new LED ones. So going back is literally just the opposite. Since I have done it, I could do it in less than an hour, but even so, because I watched youtube videos beforehand, it only took me an hour and a half, and that was because I was taking my time so as to not make a mistake!

It is not plug and play. You would need a conversion harness to put halogen headlights into a truck originally built with LED headlights. Johnny or I can do this for you or help you DIY if you prefer.

performance-wise the halogens are poor (barely acceptable) and the LED is excellent so this decision is working against you in that regard. I understand styling is subjective and everyone likes different stuff.

I’d for sure at least BHLM and stuff Philipps H9’s in the low beams.

it would make the most sense to me if melting snow is a priority.

I actually have a set of Lexus Rx350 HID projectors that are a fairly simple swap and a set of Osram Night Breaker Laser bulbs to go for the halogen housings. So I would be at the same level of performance or greater. Halogens suck all the way, but are way easier to retrofit haha. All this talk of the LED does have my considering at least running them for a few months to see if I want to actually swap them. Again just gotta get the truck first, and this post was to see if there was options for the swap

As such I would like to thank everyone for their incredibly fast and helpful responses! Can't say that I have enjoyed this level of welcoming and comradery from an automotive forum in a while!

Not for nothing, you gonna change your lights to a crappier version, and this is a decision you’ve made without purchasing the vehicle? Have you seen the difference? Maybe look into a used 2nd or 3rd gen with halogen? Seems a little fishy to me.

You lucked out. It seems warm welcomes can be less than 50/50 here sometimes haha. I think if you try the LEDs you'll like em. I have retrofit projectors on my truck and they're the bees knees. I need to get osrams though

Easiest step is to not end up with LEDs.

Most ORs don’t come with the LEDs. It’s an upgrade to the standard package (that you will pay a good chunk of extra money for), so you’re better off just buying a regular OR withthe halogens from the get go. I have the halogens in mine and they’re still very good headlights IMO, and the they put out good light and work just fine... but the factory LEDs are better in every way. Can’t see why anyone would want to go the opposite direction after paying the dealer markup for the LEDs.

I didn’t mean to come off too harsh in my first post over here. For a while I held back and stuck with my halogens. Claiming I would need to melt snow. But I live in Cali, 3 hours from possible snow. So I had to say to myself “brah, when are you gonna need to melt the snoh?”

I had a 2018 with the halogen projectors, and now a 2021 with LED's. To compare them isn't even fair. That's how much better the LED's are...I hope you can see the difference for yourself before making the decision.

I thank you all for the replies. I just want to reiterate that I do not intend to specifically purchase an OR with LED's with the sole intention to swap them to halogen to put in HID projectors. I have factory LEDs on my 11th gen corolla and they work wonderful, but the retrofit on my 9th gen (Mini H1 projector and Philips capsule on H1 base from The Retrofit Source) outperforms my 11th gen. This post was more about an availability and conversion opportunity. For instance if the dealer happens to have an OR with everything I want but has the LED package I won't say turn it down. I already have the RX350 projectors and bulbs from when I thought I was originally going to get a Tacoma back in 2019 but that plan fell through. I believe that was before the LED housings were offered on the Tacoma. Just wanted to see if it was possible to reuse equipment I already have.

Also please note that I have exactly ZERO intention of running either a LED or HID bulb in the halogen projector. I have been retrofitting for many years and, while I have installed HID's into halogen projectors and they work great when using quality bulbs like morimotos, I have never installed a LED in either a reflector or projector nor do I condone such behavior.

Side note, that was an informative read. I love looking at the data.

I would certainly review the lights before making a decision either way. I just already have the parts to retrofit and would prefer to save money. If I get LED and determine them to be great then I may just sell off my RX350's, if not then I revisit the topic lol. I thank you for your recommendation to try them. I do intend to if that is what happens.
