Gonna have to disagree with a point of yours here. You'd say "You'd take the word of consumer reports over an article at torque news. Well if you read the article you'd know that they are using consumer reports own data. Essentially consumer reports is contradicting itself. They predict the Tacoma to have poor reliability yet THEIR OWN survey shows that in fact the reliability is pretty damn good. Yet despite concrete evidence of reliability they keep PREDICTING low reliability.

I'm not a tin foil hat kinda guy but CR certainly seems to have an agenda against the Tacoma and maybe trucks in general. This dates back to the 2nd gen. And I agree with @hiPSI, the surge issue smells like "let me talk to your manager" folks.

Don't care about Consumer Reports opinion, since I already own the 3rd gen, and am happy.

But TW, wow! This thread has been going for almost 3 hours and hasn't devolved into a total shitshow.

Props to the management of TW on this count, all the hard work is making a difference.

    And also, ibtl.

It's funny how getting rid of a couple people makes the air smell cleaner no? Really proves the whole "loud minority" thing.

I have had all three gen Toyota's, from 4 cylinders, 4 cyl turbo and V6's. None of them had any problems, they almost ran forever. I now own a 2017 Tacoma OR, no surge, no transmission problem, and also no problem with the leaf spring squeaking. Consumer's reads surveys from readers that don't know a damn thing about this truck and the new 3.5L. :oldglory:
