    4 cylinder - 3500 tow capacity
    6 cylinder - 6400-6800 tow capacity.

Who says there is not much difference ?
    That's about a 1.5 ton difference !
    Get the 6.

Funny how people say the 4 can tow 3500, then the next day you hear you should only tow a fraction of the rated load.

I'd really like to know, but he edited the post. Think it was something like "I'm gonna tow 6k every week will the 4 banger work?"

Test drive both , think about it ,don't rush . I vote 6 cylinder because if you need the extra power it there when you need it.
That said a 4 cylinder is still a great truck you can't go wrong either way.

Unless you're someone like me who has never learned how to drive a vehicle with an automatic transmission; for us, the V6 is the only option.

Plus with the 6, fuel economy isn't much different.

At those speeds my v6 will get 22mpg or better. You've done something to your 6 that its that low. I can even do better towing my 5x10 utility trailer loaded with my snowmobile, and get at least 19.

I always liked the Toyota 4 cylinder trucks. If my current "needs" were in sync with what 2TR-FE had to offer, in a Tacoma, it was the natural choice.

The real, unspoken issue here is, "Where is my D4D powah plant?"

For perspective, the WWII deuce performed its miracles with a 4.4L GMC 92 horsepower engine with about 200ft-lbs torque. I'm more than good with almost 160hp in a smaller, modern truck.

Toyota needs to bring back the Regular-cab, 4x4, 4-cylinder pick-up.
It is the only way me and many people would consider the 4-cylinder engine.
    It is just pure heritage!

^ This!!!!! I drove plenty of 4 banger Yoda's in my days and they were all single cabs. And I never tried to tow anything substantial with them.

While these trucks are cool, IMO they would be absolutely useless for majority of Tacoma owners. No space for passengers/cargo and can only tow light loads.

Hell yeah. Hard to imagine these days there was a time when a cloth seat and ac were premium options and 100 hp in front of a 5 speed was all you needed to get shit done.

I had a regular cab 2wd 4 cylinder 5 speed Ranger as a 3 season daily for several years. That little Ranger hauled yard stuff, building materials, appliances, trash, scrap metal, just about anything that would fit in the 6 foot bed -- it indeed got $#!t done. Did it thrifty too, about 25 mpg.

It is only the wife and I so it worked out fine, not much cab space on grocery day though. It was luxurious too with AC, cassette player and a cloth seat.

Heck, I'd be happy as long as it's a 4x4. Very capable 4banger & truck.
